Winter’s Bone Winter’s Bone is a movie based off of a novel that revolves around seventeen-year-old Ree Dolly who looks over her mentally ill mother, her twelve-year-old brother Sonny, and six-year-old sister Ashlee. She basically plays the role of the mother by caring for her family day in and day out, making sure everybody eats, while at the same time, teaching them how to survive by teaching them how to hunt and cook. Their father, Jessup, is nowhere to be found after he was released on bail after being caught for manufacturing methamphetamine. After being told that if their father does not show up for the court date, they will lose their house (because it was put up for collateral as part of his bail), Ree sets out in search of her father on a path where danger is very common and drugs are very readily accessible. She began her journey by contracting her drug-addict uncle Teardrop before venturing off to the local drug lord: Thump Milton. The only information she receives here is that her father either died in a meth lab explosion or he skipped town to evade the police and avoid arrest. After, Jessup fails to appear for his trial, the bondsman informs Ree that she has about a week before they take hold over their house and the land and to avoid such an occurrence, she would need proof that her father is indeed dead and has not just skipped town. The end result is that she ends up getting saved by Teardrop after getting beaten up by a bunch of thugs when she goes to search for her father again. He tells her that her father was killed because he was suspected of informing on other meth manufacturers. One night, her attackers take Ree to where her father’s body is in a pond and she cuts off his arms and brings them in as proof t... ... middle of paper ... ...y ill. On the same side though, the mother whose name is Connie, also has had a few affairs that she shared with Ree fairly openly. Although she is now severely mentally handicap, and almost completely dependent on Ree (this of course meaning she cannot take care of her own children either, also leaving them to Ree to take care of as well), when she was younger, Ree described her as a very beautiful, caring, and fun person to be around. Teardrop is their drug addict uncle who is also Ree’s father’s older brother. He is a hardcore meth user who also deals; basically another person who you would not want to get mixed up with, another shady character just like their father. Although she is seemingly frightened of him, Teardrop is the only person that goes out of his way to help out Ree on her journey towards finding her father and resonating the whole bail situation.

She knew all along of who she really was and played it cool . Then stops by the Doctor room and steals money where she stashed her cash , steals it and puts it in her sports bag but they get switched up and noticed once she was already at the bus station that she had no money . Someone in her past seems to recognize her in a lexus which was bullet the guy she spent her seventh birthday with while her father was arrested

The movie Sherrybaby depicts a young woman struggling to pick up her life where it left off after being released from prison. She tries to rebuild her life but encounters many obstacles along the way. She tries to rekindle the relationship with her daughter Alexis, while battling to stay clean from her heroin addiction. She also seems to have a difficult time forming relationships with people in her halfway home and using her sexuality to get her way in the work field. She is in over her head as she tries to jump right into where she left off three years ago. Despite her positive attitude, we witness the challenges she faces with low self-esteem, substance abuse, and the guilt of leaving her daughter Alexis to be raised by her brother and sister in law.

Winter Dreams There are many ways in which “Winter Dreams” is like and unlike a fairytale. “Winter Dreams” had the potential to have a fairy tale ending. Beginning the story, F. Scott Fitzgerald made the story seem predictable. The reader would have predicted a happy ending, like a fairytale. An ending where the ambitious young man gets the beautiful girl of his dreams.

Addie Bundren, the wife of Anse Bundren and the matriarch of a poor southern family, is very ill, and is expected to die soon. Her oldest son, Cash, puts all of his carpentry skills into preparing her coffin, which he builds right in front of Addie’s bedroom window. Although Addie’s health is failing rapidly, two of her other sons, Darl and Jewel, leave town to make a delivery for the Bundrens’ neighbor, Vernon Tull, whose wife and two daughters have been tending to Addie. Shortly after Darl and Jewel leave, Addie dies. The youngest Bundren child, Vardaman, associates his mother’s death with that of a fish he caught and cleaned earlier that day. With some help, Cash completes the coffin just before dawn. Vardaman is troubled by the fact that his mother is nailed shut inside a box, and while the others sleep, he bores holes in the lid, two of which go through his mother’s face. Addie and Anse’s daughter, Dewey Dell, whose recent sexual liaisons with a local farmhand named Lafe have left her pregnant, is so overwhelmed by anxiety over her condition that she barely mourns her mother’s death. A funeral service is held on the following day, where the women sing songs inside the Bundren house while the men stand outside on the porch talking to each other.

He isn’t purposely being disruptive, he’s excited and eager to learn and sometimes the teachers don’t understand that, says Janice to herself. For Janice to always be “on-call” to collect her son definitely makes it difficult for her to hold down a steady job.

By doing this, Granik is trying to illustrate how families living in poverty stricken areas aren't always guaranteed the best parental figures, requiring the older sibling to sacrifice their own childhood in order to take on a parental role. Not only does Ree have to step up in replacement of one parent, but two. Since both of her parents aren’t involved with raising Sonny and Ashlee, she must take on the tasks meant for a mother and a father. For example, she has to worry about doing the dishes and taking them to school while also teaching them how to shoot a gun and hunt. Granik does this to shed light on the fact that in impoverished areas, some families aren’t fortunate enough to have both parents involved, requiring others in the family to sacrifice their own childhood in order to try their best to take on the roles of both
In the novel by John Steinbeck The Winter of our Discontent there are numerous ways one can relate Ethan’s life to the major themes theory. Throughout the novel Ethan is in a moral struggle to decide whether or not he should try and get ahead at any means possible, or remain in his menial grocery clerk job. His compassionate ways are actually holding him back financially, because he is surrounded by ruthless corporate men that will not think twice about attacking someone else for their financial self-interest.
