Sir Winston Churchill became the most influential person in World War II due to his military background. Born to a aristocratic family, Churchill was pushed into a military academy by his father for doing badly in school.While in the military, he began a short-lived journalist career that led him to writing novels. In his later years in life, he started his political career and worked his way up into Prime Minister. By obtaining these accomplishments, Churchill became a very significant figure in the allied powers. When Churchill first entered in the military academy it did not seem like a good choice for him because it took three tries to pass the exam for British Royal Military exam. Once he got into the academy, Churchill excelled and graduated While writing his paper on the Boer War in South Africa, he was tajen prisoner by the Boers. While escaping, he traveled over 300 miles to Portguese territory, making headlines in the newspaper. Whenever he returned back to Britain, he wrote about the different and scary experiences he encountered in his book “London to Ladysmith” (1900). In 1900, Churchill became a member of the Parliament in the Conservative Party for Oldham, a town in Manchester. Very quickly he was not pleased with their committment to the criminal injustice, and soon switched to the Liberal Party in 1904. He was elected as member of Parliament in 1908, and was soon appointed to the prime minister’s cabinet as president of the Board of Trade. That very year, he met and married Clementine Oglivy Hozier. As President of the Board of Trade, he joined newly appointed Chancellor Llyod George in opposing expansion of the British Navy. Churchill helped out in the People’s Budget, which introduced new taxes on the wealthy to pay for new welfare programs. Churchill performed his first speech in Parliament in 1901, having a lisp, he learned to overcome by making notes. He was unafraid to speak his mind and let others know when he disagreed, with his friend, Lord Hugh Cecil, he organized a group of young members who were good at harassing their own party leaders-The ‘Hughligans’. In May 1903 he Following the defeat in 1929, he lost his seat and spent most of the next eleven years out of office, mainly writing and creating speeches. Although, he was alone in his thoughts to Indian Independence, his warnings against Appeasement of Nazi Germany was proven correct after the break out of World War II. In 1940, Churchill was selected as Prime Minister of an all-party coalition government. Churchill was active in both administrative and diplomatic functions in prosecuting the British War effort. Some of his most important speeches are given in this era, and are for stimulating British morale during these periods of hardship. In his 1946 speech in the USA, he warned of the continued danger from the powerful Soviet Russia. In 1951, he was re-elected for a second term but was very unfit for the term, having to conduct business from his bed. He tried to stop the Cold War and failed, which eventually he had to resign from the term because of his age and being
