When you think of the woods and forest what do you think of? Mostly bears and other scary creatures roaming around, looking for something to feed on. That’s not how things are in the 100 acre woods. Yes, there is a bear but he is a friendly bear. His name is Winnie the Pooh and his best friend is a young boy named Christopher Robin. Pooh and Christopher have other friends in these woods that are all friendly as well, such as: Piglet, Rabbit, Eyeor, Owl, Kanga, and Roo. Automatically we portray the woods as a scary place but in Winnie the Pooh the 100 acre woods are a friendly and sweet place to live. Winnie is in a bit of a jam, or should I say honey. Pooh in pondering a way to get more honey from the bee hive in the tree above him. He starts to think, how can I get the honey from the bees buzzing around up there. At first he starts to climb the tree. He climbs and climbs and climbs and eventually he got high enough to a point that he stopped and stood on a branch. Then, the branch snaps and Pooh starts to fall. ““Oh, help!” said Pooh, as he dropped ten feet on the branch below him.”(Milne 31) He then continued to fall onto the next branch underneath him. Finally after bouncing and sliding down the rest of the tree he was on the ground. He was trying to think of another way to get the honey so the first person he thought of was Christopher Robin. Pooh came upon Christopher’s house. They say good morning to each other then Pooh asked Christopher of he had a ballon he could borrow and he did indeed have one. It was from the party he was at the previous day. Pooh had a choice between a blue or green ballon. He chose the blue one so that it would blend in with the sky. He then covered himself in mud and began to float up to the buzzing bees. Unfortunately there was no wind that day so Pooh was stuck in the air away from the honey. In Ken Kesey’s novel One Flew Over the Cuckoo’s Nest, the reader has the experience to understand what it was like to live in an insane asylum during the 1960’s. Kesey shows the reader the world within the asylum of Portland Oregon and all the relationships and social standings that happen within it. The three major characters’ groups, Nurse Ratched, the Black Boys, and McMurphy show how their level of power effects how they are treated in the asylum. Nurse Ratched is the head of the ward and controls everything that goes on in it, as she has the highest authority in the ward and sabotages the patients with her daily rules and rituals. These rituals include her servants, the Black Boys, doing anything she tells them to do with the patients.
Paloma Josse is a twelve-year-old girl who lives a lavish life. However, she has developed a plan to end her own life by June 16th, the day she turns thirteen. After close observations to the world and people around her, she comes to the conclusion that people seem to never become who they always wanted to be. She assumes that this is inevitable in the life of every adult’s life. She convinces herself that in order to avoid this fate she must end her own life. In hopes of finding beauty, she commits herself to journaling about moments that she finds to be meaningful to leave behind when she is gone.
In the Irish detective novel In the Woods by Tana French, we confront the dilemma of discerning the good from the bad almost immediately after cracking open the covers—the narrator and main character, Robert Ryan, openly admits that he “…crave[s] truth. The character(s) that I chose to diagnosis and treat are the Minions from Despicable Me. I would diagnose them with ADHD or “Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder” because they are extremely hyperactive, are constantly being distracted by random objects passing by, and had difficulty in properly carrying out Gru’s objectives because of their disposition to be distracted and wide-eyed at any little thing. In order to treat the minions’ ADHD, i would use behavior therapy which uses learning principles, such as classical and operant conditioning, to get rid of unwanted behavior and reinforced the desired behavior. “Mockingbirds don't do one thing but make music for us to enjoy. They don't eat up people’s gardens, don't nest in corncribs, they don't do one thing but sing their hearts out for us. Thats why it’s a sin to kill a mockingbird” (119). In the novel, To Kill a Mockingbird, by Harper Lee, the first mention of a mockingbird appears when Jem and Scout are learning how to use their new air rifles. Atticus doesn’t want to teach them how to shoot the air rifles, but he gives them one rule to follow: do not kill mockingbirds. Later Scout, the main character, is told by Miss Maudie about how it is a sin to kill a mockingbird because they are innocent and they don't do anything to anyone. Throughout this story, there are several characters who are portrayed as mockingbird figures. Jem, Scout, Tom Robinson, and Boo Radley all fit the symbol of a mockingbird because they all start off innocent but are later changed dramatically by the brokenness of the world.
The Boy in the Striped Pajamas begins with little Bruno playing with his friends, running around around the marketplace acting as if he were an ariplane. From this we have an idea of how much Bruno knows of the war. He acts as if nothing is wrong in his normal life and plays as a normal boy in any other situation would. In later scenes, we see him obliviously act as if he were on a battlefield in a game with his friends just before he moves, which leads us to another topicc. The move. At his new house, he experiences a variety of new situations and he handles them a bit oddly from a German perspective. Firstly, he calls the concentration camp with Shmuel a “farm” and the Jews on it the “the farmers”. The only peculiarity that he can see from this is that they are wearing striped pajamas.
One character that categorically comes to mind as responding to iniquity during the novel is Bilbo Baggins. The Hobbit, written by J. R. R. Tolkien, is a novel about Bilbo’s journey of self-discovery as he conquers challenges never faced before. Baggins search for injustice and problem solving helps the story evolve in the novel, as well as displays heroic efforts that no one expected from him in the beginning. Consequently, his substantial courageous actions, countless sacrifices, and unquestionable allegiance to the dwarves create a sense of justice that plays a vital role in the unity of characters in the novel.
Woody receives his call after a new and brave toy comes to the house. Its Andy’s birthday and woody needs to find out if there are any new toys. He soon finds out that Andy got this new toy called a Buzz lightyear. Andy soon treats this toy as a favorite, which makes woody very jealous. At first Woody does refuse the call to get rid of Buzz, but soon Andy becomes so attach to the toy. He then changes his room from western theme to space theme. Simon is easily the most important character in William Golding’s classic Lord of the Flies, a book where several schoolboys find themselves on an island after a plane evacuating them from war-ridden Britain. The book documents their attempts to create a civilized society to wait for rescue, and how the inherent savage instinct of humans ruined the peace and destroyed rhyme and reason. Simon is a gateway to the intentions of the novel for the readers. His character changes throughout the book, such as when he faints, when he tells Ralph to continue as the leader, and, arguably at the apex of the book, when he hallucinates the Lord of the Flies.

The Lord of the Flies by William Golding is a peculiar story about boys stranded on an island, and the plot and characters relate to many prevailing events and problems. A specific problem that is currently occurring is the mutual hatred and enmity between North Korea and South Korea. This is a current event, but the North and South’s hostility has been ongoing since 1945, when Korea was split into North and South, Communist and Capitalist. When the 38th parallel(Border between North and South Korea) was created, Kim Il-Sung ruled the North, and Syngman Rhee ruled the South. As of now, a power hungry dictator, Kim Jong-un rules the north, and an optimistic president who wants to see change was recently elected in the South, named Moon Jae-in. In Golding’s book, Ralph is a character who aimed to keep everyone alive and to stay together. Jack on the other hand, wanted to have fun and hunt, and although he also wanted to be rescued, he made no effort to help. In this sense, North Korea is a clear representation of the character Jack and his quest for power, and opposingly, South Korea is a representation of Ralph and his strive for order, democracy, and civilization.
Is everybody born purely good inside? Or are we all filled with certain amounts of good and evil? With no adult supervision or civilization the boys descend back into the madness and savagery that is human nature. Dorothy Johnson in “A Man Called Horse” writes about a young man who was born and raised in Boston. He lives in a gracious home under his grandmothers and grandfather’s loving care. For some reason, he is discontent. He leaves home to try to find out the reason for his discontent. Upon leaving he undergoes a change in status and opinion of himself and others. He begins a wealthy young man arrogant and spoiled, becomes a captive of Crow Indians- docile and humble, and emerges a man equal to all.
Imagine waking up on a normal day, in your normal house, in your normal room. Imagine if you knew that that day, you would be taken away from your normal life, and forced to a life of death, sickness, and violence. Imagine seeing your parents taken away from you. Imagine watching your family walk into their certain death. Imagine being a survivor. Just think of the nightmares that linger in your mind. You are stuck with emotional pain gnawing at your sanity. These scenerios are just some of the horrific things that went on between 1933-1945, the time of the Holocaust. This tragic and terrifying event has been written about many times. However, this is about one particularly fascinating story called The Boy in the Striped Pajamas by John Boyne.
