Beer happens to be one of the most extraordinary discoveries that mankind has stumbled upon. Gruel, a common food made of grains if left untouched for a few days would transform into a pleasantly intoxicating beverage, more commonly as beer. Eventually natives stumbled upon the new beverage, which led to advancements in the society. Much like beer, wine was a discovery which played an important role in history. The attempt to store grape juice led to the discovery of Wine, because wine is the product of fermented grape juice. Grape skins contain natural yeasts which convert sugars into alcohols. Unlike precedent alcoholic beverages, the Spirits were inventions rather than discoveries. The Spirits were a result of experimentation done by Arab …show more content…

Convergence of civilizations led to further advancements, by using past knowledge as a base which new civilizations add to. Wars often encouraged the exchange of ideas and encourage scholars to learn from the past “At a time when the wisdom of the Greeks’ had been lost in most of Europe, Arab scholars…..were building on knowledge from Greek, Indian, and Persian sources to make advances” (Standage, 94) The spirits were also one of the many advancements, when Christian civilizations made contact with Arab civilizations. The Arabs refined a technique which eventually became popular known as distillation. Wine, a gift passed from the Greeks to the Romans was the basis for the spirits. Spirits were hard liquors which were originally made by distilling wine. Tea was a medium for trade between China and Britain, and as ports opened the prices dropped and made the drink available to more than just the elite. As tea was popularized, innovators and businessmen used tea breaks as an initiative for workers to work smoothly all day. Tea with caffeine helped workers concentrate and remain alert on the job which made the business run more efficiently. Over time tea became a commercial success and helped Britain increase trade with China greatly. Due to the success of tea it led to the growth of other businesses as well, such as crockery. Although, initially the trade of tea initially helped Britain insert authority over plenty of nations, soon tables began turning.
