Exploration of the philosophical part of life has been a very common thing for poets in the past. They love to play mind tricks through their poems that have a deeper meaning of life. They always try to play it off in some simple word play, but there is actually an insanely deeper meaning to the poem. Nine times out of ten it deals with life in some way. It usually will try to teach a lesson of some sort, or maybe even give some insight to how you should treat life. The author William Wordsworth is a lyrical genius when it comes to his poetry. No doubt that in life there will be pain and sorrow, it is a natural part to life. What he suggests though, is that how you handle it and dwell on it, is completely up to you. You can either choose to sit and sulk upon everything, or you can realize that life is short and be happy no matter what. He says, “If this be but a vain belief, yet, oh! How oft – in darkness and amid the many shapes of joyless daylight; when the fretful stir unprofitable, and the fever of the world, have hung upon the beatings of my heart – how oft, in spirit, have I turned to thee, o sylvan Wye! Thou wanderer through the woods, how often has my spirit turned to thee!” (Lines 49-57) He shows here that he has gone through the tough times, and that things have sat on his heart and slowly crushed it. Wordsworth is using something so simple, just revisiting a place, to make some suggestions and insights on life. Going back over the important messages to the poem is first that imagination can restore our minds to a healthy and happy state. Second thing is that just a few happy memories can get us through the rough times in life. Last and one of the most monumental one to me is that happiness is a choice. There will be plenty of times that life knocks you down, but whether or not you stand up, is completely up to you.
