Lady Macbeth

In William Shakespeare's play, Macbeth, many characters moods change throughout. However, the one character whose mood changes most throughout the play is Lady Macbeth. In the beginning of the play, Lady Macbeth is the one that drives Macbeth into the killing of the king Duncan. She seems confident and determined in the beginning of the play until she is overwhelmed by guilt. Along with this, Lady Macbeth and Macbeth’s relationship change after the many murders they have performed. Finally, after all the deaths that Lady Macbeth and Macbeth performed, she finally can’t sleep knowing what she finished.

From the beginning, Lady Macbeth wants to be the queen and if that happens macbeth would be king. In order to do that the king, Duncan, would have to die. This is where Lady Macbeth’s idea of killing Duncan comes in. “Come, you spirits that tend on mortal thoughts, unsex me here and fill me from the crown to the toe top-full of direst cruelty” (Scene 1 act 5 44-46). This quote describes how Lady Macbeth wants the royalty of being queen. Here she is power-hungry to be the queen and she shows she will do anything to get it like killing. As Macbeth tries to perform the murder Lady Macbeth persuades him and he finally does it. During this act, Lady Macbeth portrays a dominant leader as she leads Macbeth into the murder. What really tops it off is when Macbeth does not execute the plan completely and Lady Macbeth finishes it with ease. As the play goes on, the dominant lady in Lady Macbeth begins to disappear. In act 5, Lady Macbeth is always moving her hands like she is washing them, which foreshadows a dramatic and emotional scene about to happen. ...Banquo to the suicidal murder she changes greatly. Her insanity takes over her mind as she commits suicide. Before this she awakes in her sleep where she is sleepwalking. During this she reveals a lot of information about murders she had committed aloud. The guilt had taken over her body and during this scene, she rubs her hands the whole time. She can't dispose the guilt she has deep inside her from the murder of Duncan. She can’t take it anymore and decides to kill herself.

Lady Macbeth started as calm, controlled, and confident but at the end she ends up crazy and insane in her emotions to performing one more murder of herself. Her and Macbeth’s relationship doesn’t change much until later in the play. Finally from the beginning murder of Duncan to the Murder of herself, Lady Macbeth's emotions take over to drive her insane leading to death.
