Recommended: Understanding performance management

1.0 INTRODUCTION For mini project of this subject, I choose to analyze performance management of different Wi-Fi based on context Wi-Fi service provided in my house area which is SriPuteri WifiNet. To analyze the performance management, I have to identify the problem statement, scope and method to use. In Local Area Network (LAN), although multiple device such as PC, laptop, mobile phone and many more can connected to Wi-Fi but as the increasing of device used, the network can become slower because of data traffic congestion. To overcome the problem, it is essential to have a good Network Management plans. In Network Management, there are three main aspects that must considered which is Security, Performance and Reliability. Security is on how to ensuring the network protected from unauthorized users, Performance is on how to eliminating bottleneck in the network and Reliability is to make sure the network is available to users and responding to hardware and software malfunctions. Based on my mini project requirement, I have to analyze the network based on Performance Management. Performance Management is derived on monitor end-to-end performance including monitor component performance (throughput), how the react of respond time when we sent a request to network, and how the traffic flow in network. 2.0 PROBLEM STATEMENT There are several problems that affect the efficiency network performance:- 2.1 Performance Performance can be measured by the consumption of bandwidth and the flow of the traffic, throughput, data latency or delay time, packet loss and retransmission of data. Throughput is the amount of traffic a network can carry at any one time, the higher the bit rate, the faster files transfer. If there is a lack ... ... middle of paper ... ...problem such as bottleneck, traffic overload, retransmission. 5.0 METHODS To measure a performance management on Wi-Fi, I used Wireshark as a medium to tracking all network activity. Wireshark is a packet analyzer software to see visible traffic on network. It also captures data packets in real time and displays them in human-readable format. Figure 1 : WireShark interface 6.0 CONCLUSION As a conclusion, the performance management of network management are one of essential things of aspect in networking. The efficiency performance of different wifi are based on two aspects, performance and hardware. To make sure a good network performance, we must monitor all of the network activity and analyze all the data including network traffic, bandwidth, latency and etc. From the input, we can use this information to troubleshoot if there is an error in network.
