Communication is an integral part of working in the business environment. Individuals communicate various pieces of information to internal and external business stakeholders.The design of an organization should provide for communication in four in distinct directions: downward, upward, horizontal, and diagonal. But we have only discuss about downward communication and upward communication, where downward communication is more prevalent than upward communication in organization. Communication can flow vertically or laterally. The vertical dimension can be further divided into downward and upward direction. Downward communication is more prevalent because in this type of communication, we have to give orders and instructions to our sub-ordinates. So we have to explain each and every step that is going to help in work. But in upward communication they sub-ordinates do not have to give instructions their head. In this case, the downward communication is a communication that flows from one of level a group or organization to a lower level is downward communication. When we think of managers communicating with employees, the downward pattern is the one we are usually thinking of. The most common forms of downward communication are job description, memos and e-mails from the CEO, policy statements, hiring and operating procedures, manuals and company publication. It is used by group leaders and managers to assign goals, provide job instructions, inform employees of policies and procedures, point out problem that need attention and offer feedback about performance. In many organizations, downward communication is often incomplete, inadequate, and inaccurate, as evidenced in the often-heard statement among organization members that “we ... ... middle of paper ... ... communication is most prevalent than upward communication because many disadvantages that have at upward communication. We can see differentiate upward communication from downward communication. Where upward communication is compatibility in systems terms refers to the compatibility on an existing version of a software or hardware with the newer and most of the times more powerful updated versions. For example, a program that runs on an Intel 386 microprocessor, also runs on a Pentium, is upward compatible. This is quite an advantage as is obvious, whereas the reverse is downward compatibility.
