Why The Drinking Age Should Be Lowered To 18

Should the drinking age remain at 21 years of age or be lowered to 18? Personally, I believe that if the United States, as a country, made the wise decision to lower the drinking age from 21 to 18, they would honestly be shooting themselves in the foot. If the United States does anything to the drinking age, they should raise it. I am entirely against lowering the drinking age to 18 because one, teenagers/young adults today are not mature or responsible enough, two alcohol related accidents and teen deaths are high enough, and finally, because lowering the drinking age would be medically irresponsible. When teenagers get together in groups and have parties, they get WAY to out of control. The most common reason parties don’t happen is because there is not alcohol or there is “buyer,” lowering the drinking age to 18 would not only give the solution to every high schoolers idea, but it would give younger children like middle schoolers an easier reason to start drinking. 18 year olds are not mature enough to understand the dangers …show more content…

When teenagers are drunk, they don’t stop and think about they’re doing but instead just go ahead and do it. Think about how it would make an 18 year old high school boy feel if he was drunk driving home from a party and hit a car with a family inside it and killed everyone? Does the United States know the emotional toll that would have on an individual at that age and not to mention the fact that the individual would spend the rest of his life behind bars. 21 saves lives America!! Lowering the drinking age would also be medically irresponsible because alcohol can interfere with development of the young adults brain. When alcohol is consumed at such a young age the potential for chronic problems such as greater vulnerability to addiction, memory loss, depression, and violence become a increasing problem.
