Guns can kill, and that is a fact we all know. That is why stricter gun control laws are being considered. Gun control laws are the laws that regulate what is needed to purchase a gun and who can purchase a gun, and this is a very controversial issue. Gun control laws should be more strict in the U.S. because, guns are the highest cause of death for homicides and suicides, shootings happen because guns are easy to buy, and the purchase of some guns are repeatedly used in mass shootings.

People can use guns for both suicides and homicides. “22% of Americans own one or more guns (35% of men and 12% of women). ” (Gun Control ProCon). It will result poorly. “The application to get a gun is less than six pages in length and it is not difficult to lie about one's background and history on the form. Once they are approved, they are allowed to own that gun for the rest of their life, most likely passing it down to a relative or child. This means that in the United States, it's more difficult to get access to an anti-depressant than it is to get access to a gun. (Patients have to go to expensive appointments with therapists and doctors to be given only a few month's supply of pills.)” (Borneman, Nicole). A firearm should not be less effort less to get than pills. Both can be deadly if misused, but the gun is the easiest to cause an accident with. Even if you buy a gun at first with good intentions, you will have that gun forever which may cause unwanted options to open up. People may say, “Guns can be used for self defense if an attacker with a firearm comes. Therefore, we don't need stricter gun control laws.” But this is not entirely true, because the attacker should not have a gun with stricter gun control
