Many people still today live near very dangerous volcanoes. This is because the se people believe that an eruption is not so much of a threat, compared to the benefits they acquire.

Evidence:
Today, about 500 million people live on or close to volcanoes. One such example is: Mount Vesuvius in Naples, Italy. Mount Vesuvius, an active volcano, is currently the only volcano in mainland Europe to have erupted within the last century, and, due to its big population of 4.2 million people, is regarded as one of the most dangerous volcanoes in the world. The picture above shows the eruption of Mt. Vesuvius in 1944, the last known date of eruption.

Economic reasons:
There are some main economic reasons as to why people choose to reside near volcanoes, including: minerals, fertile soils, tourism and geothermal energy. Magma rising from deep inside the earth …show more content…

Firstly, the official website for the national park states that “the temperatures of the Datun volcano group is only close to boiling point, which is lower than that of low-temperature volcanoes, and is in no danger of erupting any time soon.” This statement, in a way, assures my family that the mountain is safe, and that it is perfectly fine to send me to school there everyday. Moreover, I think that Taiwan is well prepared for such a disaster, and that the advanced technology available in this country, will be able to determine if a volcano does erupt, with plenty of time left to evacuate residents. Also, it is quite safe to say that there wont be an eruption, in the time I stay in Taiwan, which wont be very long! Nevertheless, My family and I are not fully aware of the dangers, and being new to a country is always another disadvantage.
