Odysseus should not be considered a modern hero. He has done nothing to be called a hero. A hero is someone that puts others in front of themselves and saves them even though there is a consequence. Instead Odysseus put himself in front of his crew to get home. Odysseus doesn't care for his crew only for himself and family.

A modern hero would have told the crew what was gonna happen and leave the decision to them. It was his fault because he was the one that was cursed not his crew. Not only did Odysseus fight on behalf of the Greeks in Troy (Trojan War), but everything he went through he learned a valuable lesson at the end; Odysseus endured so much during his journey going back to Ithaca but he never gave up on any of his principles. Odysseus is a Foolish and selfish leader, who makes rash decisions that kill his men just for his own personal gain. One of Odysseus's many foolish decisions in the epic is when he lets his men raid and pillage the Kikones. This irrational decision ends up in the death of nearly 30 of his men.
