THE CASE OF LIZZIE BORDEN There are around 16,238 murders in the U.S every year (AC Publishing, 2017). There are more than 300 parents that are killed by their own kids every year in the U.S (HealthProfs, 2007-2017). Lizzie Borden brutally murdered her parents on August 4th, 1892. A little over 100 years ago, a gruesome double murder was committed at the Borden residence. For example, Lizzie Borden and her sister Emma’s childhoods were awful. Their mom died when Lizzie was just three years old (Allard, 2013). Their father got remarried, but Lizzie and Emma did not like their step-mother, Abby Borden, because they thought she was just using their father for his wealth. Furthermore, people think Lizzie did it because she hates Abby. Both, Emma and Lizzie greeted her as Mrs. Borden (Biography, 2017). Abby was also very mean to
Well, while at one time it may have been true that Lizzie and her father had a good relationship, we can now state that before the murder, they got into a fight about money. She lived with her father and step-mother into adulthood (biography, 2017). The hatred towards Abby grew stronger the more Lizzie lived with her. Furthermore, Emma was very protective of Lizzie and wouldn’t let her kill her parents, but when Emma was out of town they were murdered. Emma was not a suspect because she was out of town (Linder, 2004). That is more evidence to prove that Lizzie did it. Also, despite the validity of the jury’s claim about Lizzie, they miss the mark since all the evidence points to Lizzie. Immediately after her parents were murdered she sent people out of the house on arrands (Grossman, 2012). It is dumb to stay home alone when there might be a murderer near; which shows that Lizzie knew she was safe because she was the killer.
