Fashion Design and Me Not like the art, people may not understand what an art piece means. But a design must serve to a purpose, as well as fashion design. For me, fashion design is the combination of aesthetics and functions: they either reflect some social opinions and personal aspirations or fit into some specific topics. Just like I made a red dress for “Red Dress Program” in UC Davis about the awareness of women’s heart diseases and heart care issues. (I will mention this project again in Entry 6.) Talking about fashion design, some people would feel that is far away from their lives. Yes, but, fashion design is not just those fabulous runway pictures people see on the screen or in magazines. Fashion designers are not all about attending the fashion weeks and grand events. The most important part for fashion design happened before the shows. Every season’s design has a very long timeline: around more than a half year or even longer. Designer teams use this time period to pick popular colors, prepare the materials, getting inspirations and refine the design again and again. Talking about fashion design, some people would think about making clothes. This is definitely a essential skill we fashion designers should know. But it is not all. And the funny part is, we also call ourselves “tailors”, call the sewing studio “a sweatshop”. Simply because that some time we felt there were so much work load and we felt really tired in the sewing studio. Of course, this is a joke between our …show more content…

It is used to convey the design idea to the factory workers. After all, those workers are not designers, and they do not understand the design styles, but they do understand the information included in a tech-package and make the garment accordingly. In other word, CAD can be a communication way for fashion designers. Also, by the way, good CAD skills make a designer more competitive in the fashion
