I plan on attending either UW Madison or UW Milwaukee and majoring in Elementary Education with an additional focus on English as a Second Language (ESL). My goal is to graduate in four years, obtain my teaching license, and get a job in an elementary school after college graduation. My ideal grade to teach would be third or fourth grade. As a teacher, I want to be able to impact the next generation just as my teachers have done for me. My brother Max was born on my second birthday and from the start he and I have had a special relationship which has influenced many of my life choices including becoming a teacher. Max has many medical conditions in addition to Down syndrome but he doesn’t let any of this stop him from reaching his full potential. Koniar, inspired me with her engaging and thorough lessons. These lessons ranged from learning cursive, pretending to be on the Titanic, to participating in class readings of Harry Potter. She went out of her way each and every day to make every one of her students feel special and to make sure we all were learning to the best of our ability. When my brother was in an extended hospital stay, Ms. Koniar even took my sister and me on outings so that we could feel special. I could tell she wanted each of her students to succeed through the amount of effort she put in to her teaching each day. Ms. Koniar inspired me to be the student I am today and the teacher I want to become. I often find myself reflecting her teaching style in my job as a swim instructor. I use humor, vary my activities, and encourage my students to try their best with each new skill I teach them. My goal is to emulate her as best as I can when I have my own class so that my future students feel as strong an impact as I have felt from Ms.
