Often, the younger the person the more you can see their parent’s influence on where they want to go. “I want to go here because it is where my mom went,” or “I am going to go there because my daddy and I cheer them on every Saturday!” With age comes a more practical view of where to go and why a student wants to go there. Many students are faced with decision once they are about to graduate from high school. That decision is, “Is a college degree really worth it and is going to college what’s best for me?”. Looking back when I was graduating high school this was a tough decision for me and one that I regret making. Think about what you are doing and when you succeed what life you will have.” There are several different reasons why I could stay home, work and not go to college; I could go to work every day and make more money for the house, it’s easier, and I would be less stressed. Now, on the other hand there are many reasons why I should go to school; such as further my education, make my family proud, and make myself proud. I am attending college for several different reasons. One reason is to further my education. I hate feeling like I don’t know something, I like being the person everyone comes to for information. Also, because I want to be better prepared for my major, I want to be better then the next person with the job credentials. I want to major in Social Work and Criminology. I dream to be a counselor or an clinical service social worker. I want to help people who need someone there for them someone who can guide them or even just talk too. Another reason is because I would be the first in I would be the first in my family to go to college. I feel in some type of way I am setting an example for my parents and my brother that they too can go back to school. Lastly is simply because I love school. I love knowing more and more each day. College is not for everyone, but I will be successful by grasping the benefits, preparing for the problems, taking heed from experts, and working on strategies to be successful.
The only person in my family that went to college after high school was my grandmother. I do not want to be just another family member to not go to college; I do not want to give up my dreams, because I do not have the education for them. I want to be able to say I did it for me, for my dreams. College takes a serious toll on people, some are able to strive through and come out on top and some suffer from outside family issues, can’t financially keep up with school or just lack the skills that are needed for higher education. College sometimes just isn’t for everyone; and students can’t handle it all like I couldn’t myself.
My purpose and goals in attending college is to make something of my life. It is a good thing. No one wants to be a nobody. But sometimes it takes time in order for one to realize this. & nbsp; Upon graduation from high school, I, like the majority of others high school graduates, had no clue what direction my life was heading or even what I wanted to become.
College is a place where people go to learn and to grow as a person. Most people go to college for the same reasons. They want to set a good foundation for getting a job, experience new things, or because their parents wanted them to. All of those reasons apply to me also.
My parents have this perfect life for me pictured in their heads, and the first thing they see me doing is going to college. In fact, most schools children are accustomed with the stress to prepare for university. Sometimes, youth go to college by seeing their friends deciding to go there, most of these students choose the correct thing to do which is go to college but do not choose the best for them, the people that are with the person every day like his family are the best people to give a valuable advices for the teenager. However, that is not the situation with every teenager because some teenagers go to college without any one’s advice. Human being lives with responsibilities, so no one can live without enduring his future, except if the obstacles stand in front of the person and he could not pass it.
I did not want to go to Hinds Community College at first. Like my high school classmates, I wanted to go straight to a four-year university, but I was indecisive. It was my parents’ idea for me to go to Hinds, and I am still thanking them for that advice. By attending Hinds, I saw myself grow as a person, created a strong network, and made transferring to a four-year college less stressful. I can confidently say that shy is not the word that people will used to describe me. With a small campus, I have ample amount of opportunities to put myself out more. Joining the Honors Program/ Phi Theta Kappa and holding a leadership position, gave me this confidence. Those organization along with my instructors also gave me a strong, growing network
Students find themselves asking, “What do I want to be when I grow up” “What colleges will I apply to” and “What do I want to do with my life?” these questions are very important in their lives and should be answered with time and deep thought. Once students receive their diploma from graduation these questions show their life in the real world. The future is all in their hands now and they must pick the right choices. When people turn eighteen they have many choices to start their life also. All these decisions that are being made by students are commonly life decisions. Although the life decisions of graduating high school and a new eighteen year old are often considered to be very different, they are quite similar when considering college, future career, travel, and responsibility.
