I have always felt the pressure to know what I want to become. At age five they started asking us, “What do you want to be when you grow up?,” at that point in time I wanted to be a prin-cess. However, when I got older I realized I live in America and it does not work that way. I de-cided freshman year that I wanted to be a cosmetologist, but realized that is not very stable and does not come with much of a retirement. Therefore, once I reach my sophomore year of high school I had become interested in psychology. I have spent two years now looking into fields of psychology and now I have finally decided on something I believe will make me happy. At that time I was doing a project over that career for an organization I am apart of, called Family Career Community Leaders of American. This organization is “a national Career and Technical Student Organization that provides personal growth, leadership develop-ment, and career preparation opportunities for students in Family and Consumer Sciences educa-tion.” I was volunteering at day care centers and helping after school with special ed. I also felt like I was giving back to the community, and that fit with my personality well. “This desire to help and connect makes careers in healthcare, especially the more holistic varieties, very reward-ing.” Even though I enjoyed it, I found that because I was bonding with the children I was help-ing out, I was very attached to them. Anyone from doctors to my best friend, no one was safe. Now I realize people are not so black and white, people are the definition of grey. Some are darker shades such as; murderers, thieves, and racists. Some are lighter shades such as; doctors, police men, and military veterans. However, the thing about grey is that there is always a light under layer and a dark under layer. I want to know why certain people let their light or dark take over more.
