According to Philip E. Benson “Malocclusion impacts on the daily lives of young people through their concerns about their appearance, which leads to negative emotions and affects their social interactions, as well as some functional impacts on eating”(Benson). This highlights the fact that many kids and adults have teeth that impact their lives on a daily basis, and although their are many orthodontists, I want to be the one that make everyone feel confident and have a new lifestyle after their teeth are perfect. To begin my education I must first get my high school diploma or General Education Diploma (GED) (Tronshaw). One of these diplomas will help me to get into college. It is also required “to earn a bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university. Although there is no subject major requirement, students typically major in biology or chemistry”(Tronshaw). Having this degree will allow me to be more experienced in biology or chemistry and get into dental school. Graduating from dental school, which will last for four years, will earn me the Doctor of Dental Medicine Degree or DMD (Tronshaw). This degree will get me into a graduate program which is required for an “aspiring orthodontist”(Tronshaw). Lastly I am “required to pass written and clinical examinations administered by the American Board of Orthodontics. To qualify for the exam, students must present proof of graduating from a CODA accredited orthodontic program”(Tronshaw). This final step will allow qualify me to become an orthodontist.
