I wanted to research becoming a paralegal because I love the idea of getting to help others and to be in a prestige working environment. I wanted to choose a career that allows me to use my skills and knowledge, as well as opportunities for growth. As a paralegal, I will be able to combine what I enjoy doing with what I want to do in the near future. This type of work is often found for an assistant to do and for most a paralegal is basically an assistant to a lawyer. Next, there are the working hours to consider. The OCO Handbook discusses that future paralegals should expect to be working full time, some could have to work more than 40 hours per week, but their schedule could still be flexible. These type of working hours are actually pretty typical for just about any modern job. These hours would not be too extreme for many people. In addition, the working environment includes different variables. The OCO Handbook notes that some work in law firms, corporate legal departments, or even government agencies. Almost all paralegals will be working in either a legal department or a place government related. They work in these environments because they are affiliated with the law. Finally, every occupation has advantages and disadvantages. The Occupational Handbook adds that one disadvantage might be that you would be working many hours throughout the week. But The OCO Handbook also tells us that some of the advantages are that you do not need much education prior to starting
