Why I Chose To Study Law At A-Level

Throughout my education, I’ve always been very determined and focused to succeed, which is why I feel that an undergraduate degree should be the next stage in my life. Law and crime have always been of interest to me, however after studying law at A-level, my interest has grown. I would like to apply for this course as a way to build upon what I have already learnt in order to gain a greater understanding of the law, and the criminal justice system.
Despite law being my most demanding subject, it was by far the most enjoyable in comparison to the other A-level options I chose. I think studying criminology along with law would enable me gain a greater understanding of the justice system and also the criminal backgrounds of defendants in order to fully understand the reasons behind their actions.
While studying law, I have really engaged and understood the aspects of both criminal and civil law. As quite a few aspects of the A-level course directly relate to the university course, it would provide me with the foundations I need in order to succeed in the degree. Although many students applying will have studied the same course, I believe my positive attitude, determination and the knowledge I have of this subject will encourage me to focus and stay dedicated to the course.

The language and communication skills I’ve learned while studying English at AS are essential to succeeding in the legal field. Studying philosophy and ethics has allowed me to view things from different perspectives allowing me to be more objective by looking deeper into the reasoning why a person may commit a crime. I also do a media BTEC course; with it being very focused on coursework, I was able to balance numerous tasks and efficiently work within deadlines.
