Despite the fact that school attendance is not a choice for children; parents play a big role in students’ dropping out. There are plenty of reasons students dropouts. It has been proven that the percentage of student dropouts increases every year. This paper will show certain reasons and give examples of student dropouts. Is a decision for students to dropout? Well, I don’t think it should be a decision because you need education.
If there was a choice of decision, mostly students would be out of school. In addition, I believe that there are multiple of reasons why children leave school. First, they make wrong decisions. Then, they get involved with gangs, drugs, alcohol, get pregnant and commit crimes. Many have a poor school attitude and are frequently bored by school. Last, they are disconnected to their families, school and life. Many children live on the wrong side of the tracks in places where education is not valued. And where schools are law performing, they often lack community and health support. For students with disabilities, the risks are intensified. However, families can play an important role in making sure their student with or without disabilities graduates. Staying involved in your teen’s life during middle school and high school is critical. What can parents do to make sure their children with disabilities stay in school and graduate? Be involved. The most essential strategies for promoting school completion and achievement is family involvement. The challenge for parents is to find a balance between encouraging independence and providing and enforcing the guidelines teens still need in order to stay focused on school and their future. Parents, however, can help them keep their eyes on the prize and also pla...

...tudents shouldn’t follow what their friends. Finally, I think students should take full responsibility for the actions they cause, not blame other people for their troubles. The status dropout rate represents the percentage of 16- through 24 years old who are not enrolled in school and have not earned a high school credential. The status dropout rate declined from 12 percent in 1990 to 7 percent in 2011. Reflecting the overall decline in the status dropout rate between 1990 and 2011. Every year, over 1.2 million students drop out of high school in the United States above.
Summing up, all students should stay in school no matter how hard things get. Education is free now, and everybody should take an advantage of it. Students dropping out will only make your life harder and difficult. As you can see this everything you could possibly know about student dropouts.
Regularly, a student receives a diploma after a certain required course load is completed. On the other hand, some students can complete high school by a means of an equivalency test and receive a diploma that way. Unfortunately, each state, district, and even school uses the term dropout differently (USDE, 1996). The United States Department of Education?s National Center for Educational Statistics has stated three separate ways used to calculate the dropout rate. The first is when the percentage of students who drop out in a single year are reflected by the event rates. The second is when the status rates reflect a percentage of those students who in a certain age range have not finished high school ...
For some students, dropping out is the culmination of years academic hurdles, missteps, and wrong turns. For others, the decision to drop out is a response to conflicting life pressures -- the need to help support their family financially or the demands of caring for siblings or their own child. Dropping out is sometimes about students being bored and seeing no connection between academic life and "real" life (Furger).
To counteract this massive loss of profit and potential, the reasons behind dropping out must be addressed. One of the main reasons teenagers are forced to drop out of high school is to counteract family costs. Family costs include regular bills such as mortgages, rent, car insurance, car payments, gas, grocery bills, and utilities. Family costs also include unscheduled expenses such as medical bills, school field trips, and holiday celebrations. Teenagers must s...
Students should be required to get a diploma or a GED because of better job opportunities, go to college, and have a job that has higher wages. So, students that are still in high school it would be best if you stayed in school and get your high school
The president of the United States encouraged and called on the states to require students to stay in school until age 18 or graduation. In the newapaper article President Pushes States to Raise Dropout Age by Mia Lewis its states “When students dont walk away from their education, more of them walk the stage to get their diploma,”the President pointed out.” Students should be required to stay in school until 18 or graduation. No matter the reason students need their education and the main reasons they should be required to stay in school until the age of 18 are to not have a bad impact on their adult life, the income the students will receive in later life because of the diploma the students will recieve for graduating, and finally because drop out age is 17 or 18 in some states.
How does dropping out of high school affects students’ lives in the future? Students’ dropping out has become a crisis, President Obama said, “It’s time for all of us to come together parents and students, principals, and teachers, business leaders and elected officials to end America’s dropout crisis” (“ President Obama”). There are 7 thousand students’ that drop out of high school that adds up to about 1.2 million each year, wouldn’t it be nice to drop that number and help kids stay in school instead of dropping out of high school(“ President Obama”). Students’ shouldn’t drop out of high school because they couldn’t go to college, couldn’t hold down a job, and would struggle making minimum wage for the rest of their life.
I believe parents need to stand up for their kids’ rights to help them have a better future by helping to make school last all year. To help students who want to go to school all year long, they can get involved in different activities they enjoy. For example, if a student likes to play sports, then the school should let that student join a sports team. I think by letting students join programs and do different activities, they will be looking forward to coming to school every day.
In an interview of Lisa Gross, she stated that: “It's because they don't see a connection between what they're learning in high school and what their lives are going to be like as adults.” (Sanchez, Para. 11). In an interview of Russell Rumberger he stated that: “It's an important thing to do in the right direction, but by itself, it's probably not going to make a big improvement."(Sanchez, Para. 15). The basic point that those against raising the dropout age argue is that if the minimum dropout age is raised then the retention rates will go up. There will not be a significant change in the amount of diplomas given out every year, however there will be a change in the retention rates, the students would stay till they are eighteen and then drop out, just two years later than they would have if the dropout age was 16 (Sanchez,Para.6). In conclusion the main point that those against raising the dropout age argue is that if the high school fixed the problems that causes the teens to drop out the numbers of high school diplomas handed out every year would dramatically
Expectations of today’s educational qualifications for high school students are different than it was in the past. It is not uncommon to hear about a student who did not graduate from school. As shown in table 1, 97 students from Stanly County dropped out of school in the 2011- 2012 school year (“Grade 7-13 Dropout Counts and Rates (pdf.62kb)”). Last school year 3.01 percent of North Carolina’s high school students dropped out of school according to the 2011-12 Consolidated Data Report, as a result the total number of students who dropped out of high school in the 2012 year is 13,488. It is also noted that the top five reasons NC students drop out of school are: 1. Attendance, 2. Enrollment in a Community College, 3. Unknown, 4. Moved, School status unknown, 5. Lack of Engagement. (“Dropout prevention and Intervention”) This number is very high considering that there are only five major high schools in the Stanly county district. This is why I think it is important that something should be done to reduce the high school dropout rate in Stanly County.
Because of adolescence, they may think that school is “nothing”, it is just a waste of time. Also, facts have been saying that more and more students are being independent related to the school. A good reason that they are independent is that they want to have their own money. However, when we don’t know how to say no and face whatever problems may cause, we often use to drop out of college to avoid difficulties.
Between 3.5 million and 6 million young people in America dropout of high school (Bloom). About 1 million students do not make their way to graduation (Koenig). Dropping out of high school will inhibit any students ability to go onto college. Studies show that if a student were to drop out of high school, the crime rate will be higher(Kokemuller). According to professional statistics, in 2010, the percentage of high school dropouts was at a high of seven percent (Henry). At age sixteen, if a student were to drop out of high school, this student would need a parent to sign for them, and there are many parents who also believe children need an education. In 2006, about sixty-seven births to dropouts were outside marriage and this is compared to the ten percent of births to women who have received their master's degree and a high school diploma (Bloom). There are many consequences in store for high school dropouts.
Every 26 seconds one of our kids drops out of high school, that's 1.3 million students each year. The main reason for dropping out, the failure to succeed. Society puts an insurmountable amount of pressure on these kids to succeed, however this can actually be extremely detrimental to the students and children.
School can be frustrating for students. Going to school, doing homework, and then repeating it all over again the next day can become quite tedious. Especially when one feels as if they are not gaining anything from doing well in school, it causes students to have very little motivation to complete their schoolwork. Students might be motivated if there was some sort of incentive for attending school and doing well at it. A law should be passed that requires students to be paid for doing well in school because it gives them motivation, helps them with financial issues, and allows them to learn how to manage money more effectively.
First important reason why students drop out school is tuition expenses. In high schools and lower education, most of schools are funded by government, so parents does not much their budget for their children. In higher education, however, parents have to pay tuition. That is a painful problem for poor family. In poor families, they have low salary. Every single dollar is worth for them to survive such as homeless. They better have money for food than go to university because fo...
Teens today face a lot of pressure. Many students deal with difficult life situations that hinder them from focusing on their futures. This can lead to a loss of interest in school and school events, such as a sports, clubs, or after school programs. Teens start to prioritize other things over their education. Every year, over 1.2 million students will leave school without earning a high school diploma in the United States alone (“11”). That’s a student every 26 seconds – or 7,000 a day (“11”). The United States, which used to have the highest graduation rates of any country, now ranks 22nd out of 27 developed countries (“11”). Students may not realize that by dropping out of high school they are more likely to commit crimes, become parents at a young age, use and abuse alcohol and drugs, and live in poverty (“Drop”). Dropouts make up the majority of those
