For many, many years, women fought for their rights. But above it all, there is one goal that women have been working to achieve. The most important right women fought for is the right to vote. Not only does this enable women to have a voice in the way their government works, but it opens them up to many more opportunities.
Compared to the other rights the many women fought for, the right to vote is the most important right. This is the most important right because it enables them to have a voice in the way their government and the way it works. With the ability to have a voice in the way their government works would allow them to create or change laws that would also benefit women. These laws would help balance out inequality between the two genders, at least slightly. "…the Declaration of Sentiments stated that 'All men and women are created equal.'" (The Seneca Falls Convention) Another benefit of having the ability to vote is that it would help women win other rights. "[Elizabeth Stanton and Frederick Douglass] argued that the right to vote would give women political power that would help them win other rights." (The Seneca Falls Convention) Other rights women can earn by getting the right to vote is the right to speak in public, own their own property and wages, get a college education, sit on juries, and hold their own office. Although it was not illegal for women to speak in public, women were severely discouraged from doing so. An example of this is when Lucretia Mott and Elizabeth Cady Stanton were at the Anti-Slavery convention. The two women were planning to speak but "men angrily claimed that it was not a woman’s place to speak in public." Today, women and men have equal rights, however not long ago men believed women were lower than them. During the late eighteenth century, men expected women to stay at home and raise children. Women were given very few opportunities to expand their education past high school because colleges and universities would not accept females. This was a loss for women everywhere because it took away positions of power for them. It was even frowned upon if a woman showed interest in medicine or law because that was a man 's place not a woman’s, just like it was a man 's duty to vote and not a woman 's. The road to women 's right was long and hard, but many women helped push the right to vote, the one that was at the front of that group was Susan B. Anthony.
In the 1840’s, most of American women were beginning to become agitated by the morals and values that were expected of womanhood. “Historians have named this the ’Cult of True Womanhood’: that is, the idea that the only ‘true’ woman was a pious, submissive wife and mother concerned exclusively with home and family” (History.com). Voting was only the right of men, but women were on the brink to let their voices be heard. Women pioneers such as Elizabeth Cady Stanton and Lucretia Mott wrote eleven resolutions in The Seneca Falls Declaration of Sentiments; this historical document demanded abolishment of any laws that authorized unequal treatment of women and to allow for passage of a suffrage amendment.

In August 18, 1920, the U.S. Constitution Granted U.S. women a right. That was the right of vote. In American history women had no right to vote or be part of government. They were born to be at home and do the house choir and motherhood. They had no right to educate or go out, thus the 19th amendment was approved that gave the women the right to vote (Matthew, 2017). Having the right of votes for women was not easy. It was given to them after years of fighting and struggling, after fighting and protesting so long for their rights they were finally victorious. Susan B Anthony, one of the first women to participate in the women 's right movement said “I declare to you that woman must not depend upon the protection of man, but must be taught to protect herself, and there I take my stand.” For a long time women were seen as inferior to men. They weren 't capable of the things that men were. They were expected to stay in the household and tend to the children. Today, there are still women in countries fighting for their right to vote. Some countries who’ve succeeded in the mid to late 1800s were Sweden and New Zealand. In the 19th century women began to take action to change their rights and way of life. Women in most states were incapable to control their own wages, legally operate their own property, or sign legal documents such as wills. Although demoted towards their own private domain and quite powerless, some women took edge and became involved in parts of reform such as temperance and abolition. Therefore this ultimately opened the way for women to come together in an organized movement to battle for their own rights in such ways as equal education, labor, legal reform, and the occupations. In the past and present there has been discrimination between men and women based around many different rights including the right to vote. There were many suffrage groups, but The National Union of Women’s Suffrage Societies, The Women’s Suffrage and Political Union, and The National American Women’s Suffrage Association helped turn women’s suffrage around the most. In the U.S two major events that occurred were turning points for World Suffrage, not just in the U.S but other countries too. New Zealand was the first country to grant women equal rights as men, motivating women around the world to start fighting, where it then changed forever starting in Europe and the United States.

The Women's Rights Movement was a significant crusade for women that began in the late nineteenth century and flourished throughout Europe and the United States for the rest of the twentieth century. Advocates for women's rights initiated this movement as they yearned for equality and equal participation and representation in society. Throughout all of history, the jobs of women ranged from housewives to factory workers, yet oppression by society, particularly men, accompanied them in their everyday lives. Not until the end of the nineteenth century did women begin to voice their frustrations about the inequalities among men and women, and these new proclamations would be the basis for a society with opportunities starting to open for women. The supporters of women's rights strived for voting rights, equal pay in jobs, no job discrimination, and other privileges that would put them on the same level as men in both society and in the workplace. Starting with the Seneca Falls Declaration in 1848 and continuing through the twentieth century with documents like the United Nations Declaration of Women's Rights, women became significant leaders that aided in the advancement of twentieth century life and society.
Beginning in the late nineteenth and early twentieth century women began to vocalize their opinions and desires for the right to vote. The Women’s Suffrage movement paved the way to the nineteenth Amendment in the United States Constitution that allowed women that right. The Women’s Suffrage movement started a movement for equal rights for women that has continued to propel equal opportunities for women throughout the country. The Women’s Liberation Movement has sparked better opportunities, demanded respect and pioneered the path for women entering in the workforce that was started by the right to vote and given momentum in the late 1950s.
Since women have fought for a long time and proven their importance in society, they deserve the same rights as men. Before women can prove they too deserve the same rights as men, they must first put to rest the myths and beliefs of their status in this country. This myth of the female status in the United States, and in most other places in the world, has always been the same. It is the belief that women should be in the kitchen, taking care of the kids, and the house, amongst other beliefs. However, in today's society, this is considered ludicrous.
