Why Do Children Have Too Much Screen Time

Screen time for children should be limited, because it can cause fragmented attention spans and mental fatigue. This, in turn, causes said children to be less alert during school, resulting in low test scores, or in the case of preschoolers, the inability to fully complete a given task. Obesity can be connected to excessive TV watching, as well. It has also cut into children's "play" time, resulting in less and less creativity in children. All in all, too much screen time can be pretty bad for a person, and solutions to these problems must be found. According to scientific journels, light from screens confuses a persons body clock, which in turn confuses their sleeping time. This causes mental, and physical, exhaustion, which results in limited attention spans, or an inability to stay awake. This can be negated if screen time were limited to daylight hours only, and not allowed passed a certain time. …show more content…

As TV viewing ofter involves sitting on the sofa staring at a screen without moving, this happens quite often, unless it were to be limited to only a few hours at a time, with breaks in between for exercise. Play is importent for kids, as it helps develop emotional health, imagination, and problem solving. With the ever increasing screen time among kids, play is being put on the back-burner, which results in limited imagination and problem solving skills and stunted emotional wellbeing. This issue can be delt with, with frequent play dates, interspersed with infrequent to no screen time for the children. As it is, screen time is an increasing pastime and problems are increasing with it. We must find solutions to all these problems and the only to do that is to use that grey matter called our brains that reside in our heads and think. I'm sure we'll come up with
