What was the reason for corals disappearance between 1996 and 2012? Was it other animals, humans, or maybe the water. Well the answer to that big question will be told but first I will tell you how the scientist discovered the answer using the scientific method. At first scientist made an observation. The scientist realized that corals have been dying and they got curious so they looked into and got onto that subject. After they got curious they did what any curious person does, ask questions. The scientist would ask questions like “Whats wrong with the corals?” or like “Why are so many corals dying?”. When they asked the questions they of course made a hypothesis next. First, when observations are made, hypothesises are formed. To test these hypothesises scientists conduct experiments. If their hypothesis is right, it is confirmed by further experiments and validated by other scientists. After many experiments and confirmations, a theory is formed. A scientific theory is a broad and general idea or explanation provided by scientists and is related to observations and is supported by a large amount of evidence. A theory is not a fact however it is just a possible explanation. An example of a theory is the Big Bang Theory.
The process of scientific inquiry begins with the motivation to uncover the answer to a question. It then requires extensive research to gather all the information that could possibly be useful. Finally, one must put all the pieces of the puzzle together to make sense of all the information gathered and interpret it to answer the question. The last step is to write out what has been learned and publicize it to spread the new knowledge. There are many other factors, however, that also come into play in the process of scientific inquiry.

Peter Mumby found corals that were alive in the Rangora lagoon. In the video that we watched in class the video showed that there were not a lot of corals alive. But this is good news because with alive corals it should back more alive corals to the ocean. Peter Mumby found olive-green porties corals. Those corals were about the size of hippos. Corals started dying in 1998 because of a heat wave. Heat waves raise temperatures of the Ocean. The corals can not live with how hot the ocean is that is why they die. Humans have a very large effect on the ecosystems of coral reefs. Sensitivity of coral reefs causes them to be more susceptible to harmful anthropogenic practices. Some of these are sedimentation, global warming, recreational activities, poison fishing, blast fishing practices, water pollution, and coral mining. All of these very different practices can effectively end up with the same results; the mortality of coral reefs around the world. Coral reefs are an important ecosystem of the world, and support many different industries and millions of people.
Imagine a lush underwater place. Beautiful structures colorful animals and places that would never have been thought of before. In reality that's not what it really looks like, really the ocean is a desolate place that is barren like a desert. Coral reefs are well known for their colorful array of marvelous sights including a parade of exotic flora and fauna. They are said to be the foundation for a quarter of marine species, and are a crucial support for human life as well. The coral reef ecosystem is a diverse collection of species (ranging from microscopic to larger-than-life in size) that interact with each other and their physical environment. If any piece of a coral reef is harmed or removed the entire community can be seriously affected, even to the point of collapse. In conclusion, I would like to say that before writing this paper, I had no idea how important coral reefs were to the earth. I have learned a lot and I think that if more people were informed about the positive capabilities of them, humans wouldn't be so careless about them.
