Hold on to those pants. Here is a fact: more people around the globe own cats than dogs. In the United States alone, 95.6 million people own felines, over the 83.3 million canine owners. Both kinds of pets have been said to relieve stress, promote optimism in all aspects of life, and make people happy, and even so, 15% more people own pet cats than dogs. So why is this?
There are numerous reasons as to why more individuals seek the companionship of cats. Likewise, dogs, too, have personalities suitable for certain people and benefits, undeniably, which cats do not. Nevertheless, canines are not the most advantageous household pet; felines hold true to practicality in that they are more economical, they hold greater independence and efficiency, and are surpassingly convenient.

Most people like dogs more than cats. I like dogs more than cats. More than half a million people in America like dogs as pets more than cats.
A growing number of studies have attempted to support the theory that cats and dogs differ in their personality attributes. Several common factors have emerged across these studies, such as difference among social behaviours. Higher levels of dominance and hostility have been reported among domestic cats (as cited in Fonberg, 1985). Not surprisingly, domesticated dogs are higher in submissive behaviours (as cited in Marder, 1989). Woodward et al. also reflect upon previously held theories of companion animal attachment that suggest attachment is mediated by the needs of the owner and the characteristics of their pet.
Although cats and dogs are both animals they are different in many ways from, showing love, grooming, vaccinations, food, and vet care. To me dogs are more loveable than cats. However, cats are cheaper when it comes to grooming, vaccinations, and food. Owners treat and take care of their dogs better than their cats. I have always been more of a dog person even though they are expensive.

An observation I have made is that in many movies dogs are treated very well. When I was younger, I watched a movie called Bratz and one character would always have her dog inside a dog purse and they would even get manicures and pedicures together. The dog always had shiny clothes on and it was always very clean. Therefore, I agree with Bilger's argument that Americans “love affair” with their pets has gotten out of control.
Most people are familiar with the general claim dogs hate cats. We are reminded of this in advertisements, cartoons, and children’s jokes. We are familiar with the phrase “fighting like cats and dogs”. We may even classify ourselves as either a dog person or a cat person. But there are many people who have equal fondness for both dogs and cats. It is within these homes that the general claim dogs hate cats proves false. Not all dogs hate cats.
You wake up in the hospital, look around, and find a doctor hovering nearby declaring that you have just suffered through a heart attack; affirming that if not for your dog, you would have died. You remember back to earlier that day: sitting on the couch, feeling a little off, hearing your dog barking, sensing him nudging you, going to the phone to call the ambulance, and having your dog by your side until you were safe inside the aluminum walls of the emergency vehicle. Although it sounds abnormal that a dog would be the one to save someone’s life, situations similar to the one above are not uncommon. Dogs, without a doubt, are better than cats. For thousands of years, this point has been proven, time and time again. We hear about amazing things that dogs do everyday for people across the globe, but the question is, what do you hear about cats? The fact of the matter is, cats are suckered. If you try and scratch a cats belly, the cat will try to scratch and bite you. A dog is incomparably easier to train than a cat. You can teach a dog to do anything from bringing you your newspaper to the simplest command, sit. As a result of being able to train a dog, a dog goes to the bathroom outside, leaving no stench behind in your house. Whereas, a cat uses a litter box to go to the bathroom, there is always a stench in your house. Dogs are also far better with children. Dogs form a far greater bond with newborn babies, and often times do not leave the child’s crib side. Also, a trained dog will not cause destruction to your house, while you cannot train a cat to not use their sharp little claws to tear at the side of your couches, and rip and shred all the way down your curtains.
