Within the work of Jaws, written by Peter Benchley, he presents characters that completely influence the plot of the story. This story is about a great white shark that threatens the safety of the summer tourists in the community. Jaws have three main characters, Brody, Hooper and Quint. Roy Scheider, known as Martin Brody in the story was the chief of police on Martha’s Vineyard, Massachusetts. In the story, he has a wife named Ellen and two children. Martin Brody is fighting to reserve a safe community called Amity Island. Brody purpose to have a safe community is to protect tourists and his family by finding the shark and killing it. Primarily, Benchley focuses on the imagery of Roy Scheider, who is portrayed as the main character. Martin Brody is described as a defender who must kill the great white shark. In the story, Brody is said to be a family man and a chief of police that is bothered by many people. Martin Brody has an open relationship with his wife Ellen. Together, they both encourage one another and attempt to be a shield of protection for their two sons without scaring them. After Chrissie Watkins had been killed from the shark, Brody makes an effort to alert the public about what happened. Martin Brody is then shut down by the mayor, Larry Vaughn, about notifying the public. In the second half of the story, Brody continues to recommend people to take caution. He then advises Quint, the fisherman that he needs a bigger boat. Being qualified to protect and serve a safe environment for his community, Scheider displays his personality through how he seen by others within Jaws. Hooper, the oceanographer relationship with Brody in the story is pretty good. They became friends fast and worked together on finding and killing the shark.
