What is a hero ? Is a hero made through a single defining event or through years of good works ? In the story A Tale of Two Cities, Sydney Carton is the hero in the book. There were three characteristics that made him a hero. First, he was able to change his self. Next, he was unselfish. Finally, he died to keep the person he loved happy. So, without a doubt, Sydney Carton was the hero in the story A Tale of Two Cities.

Carton desires to drink as a way to detach from his past, and because of his lack of emotional strength, he allows his id to take over and Carton becomes an alcoholic.
