A Hero’s Call What is a hero? There are many versions of a hero/ comic book, myths, movie or maybe just in everyday life. The most outstanding thing is that they all have perseverance when going through a conflict. In the book “The Absolutely True Diary of a Part-Time Indian” by Sherman Alexie depicts a story of a poor boy named Arnold Junior living on his Spokane reservation. He is torn between his Indian heritage and a desire to be successful. Junior is considered a hero, because he has courage, determination and faces conflict bravery. Junior is a high school freshman with a large head, thick glasses, a lisp, and a nervous stomach. What is most important is the courage he posses. Throughout the novel Junior is constantly put in situations where the fight or flight scenario is placed in front of him. After courageously deciding to go to Rearden for school he then find himself the head of a bully’s joke."I was defending Indians, black people and buffalo. So I punched Roger in the face." He faces struggles but tend to face them bravely. He states that he feels like two different people living in one body. "My name is Junior," I said. "And my name is Arnold. It's Junior and Arnold. I'm both." I felt like two different people inside of one body. No, I felt like a magician slicing myself in half, with Junior living on the north side of the Spokane River and Arnold living on the south”.
