Where I Lived, and What I Lived For In Where I Lived and What I Lived For, Henry David Thoreau details his move to Walden Pond and the reasons he went there. He starts the chapter by imagining all of the possible places he could have lived but he settles for his small hut by the pond where he is free from paying a mortgage.
