oday I am going to inform all of you about dreams as to why do we dream, why do we have nightmares, and what do they mean. My purpose is to inform all of you about it because I know that at some point you all get curious and want to know the answers. I always have dreams and nightmares so I wanted to research and inform myself about it. It is very important for me to inform you all because everybody has dreams and it is something that we all just have.
All human beings have dreams, since the day that we are born till the day that we die. Dreams come from our minds and they are actually helpful to our body and mind. There are different types of dreams that every person has. Some have dreams of adventures, wild things, animals, food, etc. Some people have deep sleeps where they have dreams where tragic things occur and they cry or others have funny dreams and they start laughing and they would still be asleep. Some dreams may be real or imaginary, when someone thinks about an event or problem too much throughout the day, the person might dream it when they go to sleep. It is very difficult to define what the dream means, you don't know if its a signal or whatsoever. Some dreams feel as if they are real and some people freak out because they don't know if its really happening.
Theres not a specific answer in why we dream but experts say we dream because, it is a universal physical feature of our human life and it is something that we need. They believe that we dream to assist the body with rest, repair, and rejuvenation. Dreaming is a symbolic language designed to communicate your inner wisdom to you while you are asleep. ...o analyze your nightmare, you might find out how to stop them and do something about it. Some things that happen in our nightmares actually mean something in your real life. For example, if you are falling in the nightmare, it might mean that you are worried. The part in the nightmare where you are falling might mean that your inner need, needs to feel free and unburdened. In a nightmare you might not be able to move your body, or, you can only move in slow motion, it means that your feelings at stuck in a rut. If you cant speak in the nightmares, it means that you feel that you can't express your inner feelings.
Nightmares are not really terrifying experiences, they mean something and they let you know things about you. They are our mind's way of alerting us to a problem that we have. Im glad that i had the chance to inform all of you about dreams and nightmares.

Have you ever woken up feeling like you’ve been to the end of the world and back, yet never left your bed? Or maybe you might have had all your worst fears realized when you were asleep? In that case, you were probably dreaming. Dreams are a “series of images, ideas, emotions, and sensations occurring involuntarily in the mind during certain stages of sleep” (The American Heritage High School Dictionary, 2004). Everyone has about three to seven dreams a night, but it has been estimated that we forget up to 95 percent of them ( Stevens 2011). Although no one really knows why we dream every night, it’s more likely than not a way for our brain to help us solve problems.
Dreams are series of thoughts, images, and sensations occurring in a person’s mind during sleep. Dreams occur during a certain stage of sleep known as REM. Several different psychologists, including Freud and Hobson, have studied dreams. Psychologists have provided many theories as to what dreams are and the meanings behind them.
In this paper I hope to open a window to the vast and mysterious world of dreaming. To most people, information about dreams isn’t common knowledge. In researching this subject though, I found that everybody has and reacts to dreams, which are vital to your mental health. You will also find how you can affect your dreams and how they affect you.
Dreams are stories and images that our minds create while we sleep; they can be entertaining, fun, romantic, disturbing, frightening, and sometimes bizarre. Adults mostly concern about frightening dreams and how to avoid them. Nightmares and night terrors are known as the most prominent bad dreams, although nightmares and sleep terrors (night terrors) are more common among children, but adults have them as well. When adults wake up terrified in the middle of the night, they may think they are the only adult who suffer from bad dreams, but they are not. Night terrors and nightmares awaken people scared in the night, and can be caused by several factors and basic disorders. Nightmares in adults may be spontaneous or be triggered by thinking about a difficult issue, having a late-night snack, or an allergy.
One third of one’s life is spent sleeping. In the average lifetime, one would spend a total of around 6 years just dreaming! Everybody dreams even though one may not remember it. Although most common in children; nightmares affect adults as well. Probably the most common of sleep disorders, nightmares are something that almost everyone has experienced. Nightmares are vivid dreams that cause terror, anxiety and fear. Nightmares occur in the fourth stage of sleep, which is deep sleep. Nightmares are caused by rapid eye movement (REM). REM causes irregular EEG patterns that are like the patterns in stage one which is light sleep. Most people experience REM sleep three to five times a night. Nightmares can also be caused by stress, illness, a loss of a family member or a scary movie. After having a nightmare, it can be extremely difficult to fall back asleep. There are other feelings associated with dreams besides fear, feelings such as guilt, sadness, and confusion also occurs in nightmares. II. (Introduce Topic) Since the beginning of time, people have been trying to understand the different functions of the human body, how we move, talk, and even act. Many of these physiological behaviors have been explained to some extent. However, one area of the human body that has baffled researchers, is that of the mind. Many things that go on inside the mind that don’t make sense, and serves no real explanation as to why or how things happen. One of the most fascinating and mysterious sections of psychology is that of dreaming. Even though there are numerous theories about dreams; whomever you are, wherever you live, you will dream. Whether it's a good dream or a nightmare is up to your mind, but there must be some reasoning behind dreams, right?
Oprah Winfrey once said, “The best thing about dreams is that fleeting moment, when you are between asleep and awake, when you don't know the difference between reality and fantasy, when for just that one moment you feel with your entire soul that the dream is reality, and it really happened.” But, what actually is a dream and what do dreams really have to do with one’s everyday life? In essence, a dream is a series of mental images and emotions occurring during a slumber. Dreams can also deal with one’s personal aspirations, goals, ambitions, and even one’s emotions, such as love and hardship. However, dreams can also give rise to uneasy and terrible emotions; these dreams are essentially known as nightmares.

While some mental health professionals believe nightmares reduce mental tensions by allowing the mind to act out its fears, new research suggests that bad dreams are more likely to increase anxiety in everyday life. For thousands of years humans have experienced a phenomenon which we describe today as dreaming. It has puzzled and sparked interest to all whom experience it. For as long as people have been dreaming, there have been people trying to understand and interpret them. This research paper examines the causation and deeper meaning of dreams. It will compare and contrast the differentiating ideas on the subject by famous psychologists and also examine first-hand accounts from real individuals. The objective of paper is to shed some light on this complex and bizarre behavior.
Despite the large amount of time we spend asleep, surprisingly little is actually known about sleeping and dreaming. Much has been imagined, however. Over history, sleep has been conceived as the space of the soul, as a state of absence akin to death, as a virtual or alternate reality, and more recently, as a form of (sub)consciousness in which memories are built and erased. The significance attributed to dreams has varied widely as well. The Ancient Greeks had surprise dream encounters with their gods. Native Americans turned to their dreams for guidance in life. Shamans dreamed in order to gather information from the spirits.
Usually when you end up drifting off to sleep, you fall into a deep sleep and begin to experience a so called dream.” However, most children, and even some adults, experience some even more terrifying so called dreams. These dreams are called nightmares. Nightmares have been occurring in people’s sleep for hundreds of years. People have been interested in them for centuries and they have quite an interesting past to them.
There are many perceptions of what a dream actually is. Some view dreams as the subconscious trying to speak to people, and others see it as religious visions of the future. Over the years, physicians and psychologists have collected countless amounts of research and evidence to support their viewpoints on dreams. I have always believed that dreaming is a time when the brain develops and analyzes important information (Bernstein 149). Dreams do not mean anything specific, and everyone has their own cultural perspectives of dreams. In reality, no one has the power to analyze and tell people the meanings of their dreams. According to Bernstein’s psychology book, dreaming is a time when the brain experiences story-like perceptions and sensations.
Dreaming is very different than everyday life, yet somehow still relates to it in some way. In everyday life we have stress and happiness along with many other emotions. Yet in someway when we drift off into a deep sleep this emotions come right back. Dalai Lama once said that “sleep is the best meditation.” Sleep may be the one thing that people turn to, a place where your mind is totally set free to do what it wants and think what it wants. An idea or vision that is created in your imagination that when suddenly when you awake, feels so real.Dream reflect reality because most peoples dreams are in fact related to past, and recent experiences, or events that have happened in a person’s life. Dreams are more than just a method of entertainment, They should be taken more seriously because of the fact that with dreams imitating own reality, you can then learn more about yourself.
