The Greeks admired Theseus because of how courageous and noble he was. Theseus was willing to take risks and he held himself to his morals, meaning that he stayed true to himself and wasn’t influenced by other’s decisions. The Greeks valued his courageousness because with courage, you were a brave fighter and could help lead the army to victory instead of being cowardly, and shrinking away from the dangers of battle. They admired his nobility because by staying true to himself, he was able to live a fulfilled life and help the people around him, which was important to him. He didn’t believe that he could be a true hero if he had taken the easy way out, so he set on foot to go to Athens. This is an example of Theseus being courageous, for he is showing a valiant effort and isn’t being deterred by possible danger. The reason that his mother didn’t want him to travel by land is because of the long and hazardous journey. While on foot, Theseus encountered bandits, and these bandits would prey on travelers and would kill them using certain tactics. Being himself, Theseus was bold and fearless when he came upon the bandits and had killed them using the same tactics that they had used to kill others. This is an example where he is being courageous because he kills the bandits ruthlessly. Once Theseus had arrived at Athens, he was an acknowledged hero since he cleared the land of the bandits. He was invited to a banquet by the King, his father, and they are finally reunited. If Odysseus was a coward and did not fight, then the suitors would have eventually won Penelope, resulting in Odysseus losing his palace and his wife.
