1. America’s economic boom during the 1950s is popularly known as a time of new technology, population and wealth for Americans. Additionally, this new found prosperity was “unexpected” and born from the “general fear” of a relapse of the Depression.

2. Many Americans chose not to focus attention on the prospect of a nuclear war as it was an issue so big, it could “dwarf any catastrophe” faced by man before. Many were struck with fear by the possibility and thus, chose to remain blind to the chance it could happen. Others however, accepted the “permanent possibility” of nuclear war and strived towards “minimiz[ing] the damage”.

3. Graphs often do not show specific details as they illustrate a general and broad view on the topic. Thus, it is harder to draw conclusions from graphs as they do not have specificity that others sources have. Also, graphs do not provide any context or reasoning for the data in the graph. This makes it harder to construct reasonable conclusions.

4. Sources 5 and 6 both display women in the 1950s as less important as men and destined for domestic life. The adult woman in Source 5 serves the food to the men and children of the house to demonstrate the role of women in families. For example, Source 5 displays a still from a popular show and mirrors a family from the 1950s. All members at the table express happiness to be there as evidenced by their smiles and open body language. Also, American birth rates went up by a significant amount, as shown in Source 4. This is possibly because of the increased value of a happy and peaceful family. These babies would be born into wealth thus living prosperous lives.
