“Music is a moral law. It gives soul to the universe, wings to the mind, flight to imagination, and charm and gaiety to life and to everything”(Plato). No truer words have been spoken such as those uttered by the great philosopher Plato. Music is the language of love and felling which is the reason that music educators play such a pivotal role in the world today. The field of music education is one full of people ready to usher in the next generation of music makers. The word performed by the music educators of today play a crucial role in modern music industry. They teach in all sorts of working conditions, teaching in schools, as privet tutors, and in community ensembles across all working conditions. Whether they are teaching in the field in the sweltering summer heat during band comp to build a successful marching band show, or they are in an air conditioned concert hall working complete rhythms and intricate music, the working conditions alter throughout the year(bls). Finally, the profession is growing more and more each year, and is predicted to grow 5% over the next ten years (bls). The wonders of music manifest in all aspects of the world. The career involves working hard with musicians of all levels in order to create a final product. The training required to have a career in music education contains some of the knowledge to succeed; however, most of this job is learned on the job and while observing other directors that are more successful (Mitchell, Ida). After obtaining the proper training jobs are available all over the country. Band provides morals to students that allow them to be successful in life by providing the ability to work hard, self confidence, and most importantly a never say die attitude which allows them to push through any obticalsin their way. Also, in order to be a successful band director one must be able to take both the good and the bad of the job. With all the benefits and all the happiness comes times of back breaking, hard work and excessive disappointment when one works hard for a goal but come just short, but that is just the name of the game with this profession. Finally, I would like to thank Dell Trotter for aiding me in the aquization of this knowledge. His experience in the field has been an excellent aid for me throughout this process. In conclusion, the development of students ans the hard work required by a music educator allows the prospects of said students to grow as the y are apart of an activity which is well worth the hard work, pride, and pain.
