What Makes the Pardoner Corrupted in Geoffrey Chaucer The Pardoneer´s Tales

In the story, “The Pardoner’s Tales”, Geoffrey Chaucer wrote the character the Pardoner in descriptive way. He describe the Pardoner’s corruption teaching and the way the Pardoner act in the tale. The religious that the Pardoner teaching is corrupted and very selfish, greediness, and gluttony. This thing are all opposite to what the real church religious is teaching. In the story, he tricks the people to buy his fake relics and other things by using the church’s believe. The Pardoner act and his teaching are all corrupted because of the church. It shows the side of greediness, gluttony and selfishness which highly reflect into himself and his believe.
In “The Pardoner’s Prologues”, Chaucer describe him well on the looks and his personality. In “The Pardoner’s Tales”, he also use the word that directly describe him and what he is. His act and teaching are all from the church teaching, that means the church at that time is corrupted. The Pardoner said that,“I’ll have my money, wool, and food, though it be from some page whose poverty is dire or from the poorest widow in the shire; although her kids be starving, I’ll be fine, for I will drink the liquor of the vine and have a jolly wench in every town”(Chaucer 448 - 453). He point out that he really care of other people except himself. For his gluttony and his greediness, he don’t care anything else, that means his teaching and his way of doing are all wrong. The Pardoner said, “Do you believe, as long as I can preach, acquiring gold and silver while I teach, that willfully I’d live in poverty? It’s never crossed my mind, quite truthfully! No, I will preach and beg in sundry lands and never will I labor with my hands or take up basketweaving for a living. I won’t be begging idly, t...

This quote, the Pardoner talk about greed is bad, especially in gambling that all gives bad luck and waste of time. But the Pardoner sell and trick other people fake relics he have, which is very ironic to what he telling in the story.
The Pardoner believe are very corrupted, intelligent and well in using word in teaching. All he talking and teaching about are gluttony and greediness but the way he act and his speech are all opposite. The Pardoner is a big liar but the story he tell are all good story with moral. The word that the Pardoner tell are all directly reflect what he is even his looks and personality. His act and teaching are all relate to the church teaching, which means the church at that time are corrupted.
