Living life to the fullest; an idea present since the time of Eliot and still true today. During the Modernist period, TS Eliot brought that aspect to life through his writing. The Modernism era went from the 20th century through about 1965. According to Carruth, “His poems were for over two decades the chief instruments in popularizing among writers the techniques of symbolism, the desiderata of control and precision in the use of language, and the notion of poetic form as a dynamically mobile structure” (Carruth). His writing not only influenced authors of that time period, but also future generations. According to Spurr, “The infinitives in this passage...conform to the poem 's widespread use of transitive verbs of direct action in expressing the speaker 's violent impulse to combat the forces of disorder” (Spurr). Prufrock does battle some type of mental disorder, which may be a reason he could never do anything worth remember. He might have been too caught up in fighting his disorder. One song that stands out would be “One Day” by Irish band Kodaline. This song almost serves a warning to not end up like Prufrock. “Oh, life passes you by don 't waste your time on your own” (A-Z Lyrics, 16-18). The song possesses the similar theme of wasting time and telling its audience to live life to the fullest and do something in life worth remembering. “Too shy to say that you need help, You and everybody else” (A-Z Lyrics, 14-15). The theme of both of these pieces is not uncommon. Many songs and other writers today still use this theme. "The Love Song of J. Alfred Prufrock" is about a timid and downcast man in search of meaning, of love, and in search of something to break from the dullness and superficiality which he feels his life to be. Eliot lets us into Prufrock's world for an evening, and traces his progression of emotion from timidity, and, ultimately, to despair of life. He searches for meaning and acceptance by the love of a woman, but falls miserably because of his lack of self-assurance. Prufrock is a man for whom, it seems, everything goes wrong, and for whom there are no happy allowances. The emptiness and shallowness of Prufrock's "universe" and of Prufrock himself are evident from the very beginning of the poem. He cannot find it in himself to tell the woman what he really feels, and when he tries to tell her, it comes out in a mess. At the end of the poem, he realizes that he has no big role in life.
In the poem, “The Lovesong of J. Alfred Prufrock”, the author, T.S. Eliot, uses diction and tone to give the poem life, and to make the character seem as anything but mere fiction. Eliot’s use of diction shows that you should not put things off until later in life because in a flash, you may be nearing the end of your journey of life and lose all opportunity to make yourself happy with the decisions you’ve made over the years. . “ In a minute there is time/for decision and revisions/ which/ in a minute/will reverse” (line 47, 48).
Prufrock by Eliot In his poem, Eliot paints the picture of an insecure man looking for his niche in society. Prufrock has fallen in with the times, and places a lot of weight on social status and class to determine his identity. He is ashamed of his personal appearance and looks towards social advancement as a way to assure himself and those around him of his worth and establish who he is. Throughout the poem, the reader comes to realize that Prufrock has actually all but given up on himself and now sees his balding head and realizes that he has wasted his life striving for an unattainable goal.

This poem is a monologue of the persona of J. Alfred Prufrock, (the speaker of the poem) a middle aged man, intellectual and described with little self-confidence with himself who has problems in dealing with self-image and anxiety. He’s a solitary man who is achingly shy and has little courage, when isolated, he isn’t subjected to a social lifestyle and this halts him when it comes to speaking with a female. The title to me is ironic, Eliot titled it a ‘Lovesong’, therefore, the language used in the poem cements a theme of pessimism, as hardly anything is written on love.

Alfred Prufrock'; he continues this theme allowing the reader to view the world as he sees it, a world of isolation and fear strangling the will of the modern man. The poem opens with a quoted passage from Dante's Inferno, an allusion to Dante's character who speaks from Hell only because he believes that the listener can not return to earth and thereby is impotent to act on the knowledge of his conversation. In his work, Eliot uses this quotation to foreshadow the idea that his character, Prufrock, is also trapped in a world he can not escape, the world where his own thoughts and feelings incapacitate and isolate him.
