INTRODUCTION
In the 21st century, cold drinks or other may say, “soft drinks” are habitually consumed. Soft drinks are practically everywhere. Everyone is fond of soft drinks as an alternative to water as a means of thirst quenching. Manufacturers of different “soft drinks” offer a variety of flavors from sodas to fruit flavors. Who will ignore these drinks especially if they offer chilled? In the Philippines, children who cannot afford meals usually buy junk foods and soft drinks as an alternative.

Glucose is a monosaccharide with formula C6H12O6. It occurs in Free in the ripen grapes in bones and also in many sweet fruits. It is also present in human blood to the extent of about 0.1%. Sucrose is one of the most useful disaccharides in our daily life. It is widely distributed in nature in juices, seeds and also in flowers of many plants. The main source of sucrose is sugar cane juice which contain 15-20 % sucrose and sugar beet which has about 10-17 % sucrose. The molecular formula of sucrose is C12H22O11. It is produced by a mixture of glucose and fructose. It is non-reducing in nature whereas glucose is reducing. Soft drinks are a bit acidic in nature and their acidity can be measured by finding their pH value. The pH values also depend upon the acidic contents such as citric acid and phosphoric acid.These drinks are readily consumed on daily bases especially when undergoing tedious activities. Beverages containing significant amounts of sugars stimulate the pancreas, boosting insulin levels and removing the body from its natural fat burning state. They are also linked to obesity, kidney and liver damage, elevated blood pressure, teeth erosion, and stomach problems. Due to this, the Department of Education (DepEd) reminded school canteens that selling unhealthy snacks and carbonated drinks are strictly prohibited in all public elementary and secondary schools nationwide. According to the DepEd Order No. 08 series of 2007 or the “Revised Implementing Guidelines on the Operation and Management of School Canteens in Public Elementary and Secondary Schools,” states that only “nutrient-rich foods and fortified food products labeled rich in protein, energy, vitamins and minerals shall be sold in school canteens” and that the “sale of carbonated drinks, sugar-based synthetic or artificially flavored juices, junk foods and any food product that may be detrimental to the child’s health” is prohibited. Also the Department of Health (DOH), on the other hand, has recommended public school canteens to go through a “canteen makeover” to ensure that only nutritious foods are offered to students.
Despite the outmost intent of the Department of Education (DepEd) and Department of Health (DOH)thru our school canteens to serve the best food and drinks possible. Still, I believed that
