When the light has sharply faded and you have lost your way let another’s love guide you it can turn blackest night into day. This quote relates to “Daisy’s valentine” by Mary Gaitskill, in many way Joey who has been with Diane for years all of a sudden feels an attraction for a co-worker, Daisy. His feelings toward Diane is slowly slipping away and is being replaced with feelings of Daisy. Who he admires from a distance but is too reluctant to approach her bout his feelings because he’s too comfortable with Diane to let her go which makes it seem he’s not mentally or physically ready to start over again the relationship he shared with Diane with another such as daisy. Joey has tolerated a lot of things growing up such as his dad being an alcoholic, his step father for abusing him, and his mother sending him away which goes to show why some would consider him socially awkward or not accepted socially. …show more content…

It is tough to say that both are completely in love with each other because at one point Joey describes how he “wanted to put his hands on either side of her head and squeeze” (Gaitskill 18). This illustrates the frustration he has to deal with as he tries to seduce Daisy to be with him. The use of Dexedrine on Joey really starts to show when he makes comments about hurting Daisy, especially since Joey has an abusive background. It seems Joey loses patience with Daisy and her odd behaviors. When he tries to convince Daisy to do drugs it makes it seem like he wants a similar relationship the one he had with
