The Scarlet Letter Analysis In the book, The Scarlet Letter, Hester Prynne committed adultery and later gives birth to a girl named Pearl. She was thrown in prison and stayed in there for a long period of time. As a punishment, Hester has to go on the stocks and hold the baby for hours. While she was standing, she seen her husband, that she thought was dead come out of the forest with an indian. He went to get revenge on the lover. He later tries to make Hester be quiet about him and keep his identity a secret. His secret name was Chillingworth. When sent for numerous trials, they demanded to know who the lover was. She did not say a word about the lover and kept him secret until he came forward. Later in the story, Reverend Dimmesdale gets …show more content…

While they were there, they had a new start. Hester took off the A and lived her life comfortably. She found a new husband and helped them financially because all Pearl’s inheritance was put in a savings for college (Scarlet Letter 120). Pearl was so excited to have a dad that would admit her and tell everyone she was his. Pearl grew up in luxury and helped her mom when she grew old. Later in the years, Hester hurts herself and is in critical condition. Pearl helps Hester improve and she realised that is what she wants to do for the rest of her life. When Pearl comes to age, she goes off to college to become a doctor. When she graduates, Hester realises that she has no purpose anymore with Pearl. After awhile, Pearl gets married and is very successful and lives in luxury. Hester decides to move back to where all her pain was. She goes back to her old home and dies. Pearl finds out and catches a ship back to attend her mother’s funeral. She is very sad and goes back home with her family and continues to do what she loves the most, doctoring. Although her mother’s death held her back, she was stronger than ever. She opened her own hospital and was so successful that she retired and stayed home. After many years, Pearl grows very old and dies in her own bed with her children at her
