Ever since I was little I knew I wanted to help people. Doing whatever I can for others has always been something that is important to me. My youngest sister was born with a kidney disease so we spent a lot of time at the Children’s Hospital of New Orleans. I remember thinking about what I wanted my future job to be when I was in the eighth grade, I always thought I wanted to be a pediatric nurse. I now know that biology and needles are not really things I am interested in or want to be around. From spending time at the Children’s Hospital I realized what my passion was, being around kids. Since I knew I probably would not be a nurse, I started thinking of other occupations that involved kids. I know from experience that I love helping and watching kids. My junior and senior year of high school, I was the Aftercare Assistant at my school. Having that job showed me how much I love being around children and that I could see myself wanting to somehow make that a career for myself. I feel that spending time with kids is emotionally rewarding. When your job involves children, though it can be challenging, it can be a great adventure, especially with toddlers. Children are unpredictable, and every one of them are different, which is something I love to see. You get to teach them and see them grow and learn, that is my favorite part of this career. They look up to you and see you as a positive role model, which is something that benefits them later on in life. You also get to reassure parents that their children will be well taken care of while they are at work, which can take away some stress in their busy day.
