Define internal and external validity. Discuss the importance of each.
Internal validity refers to whether the effects observed in a study are due to the manipulation of the independent variable and not some other factor. In other words there is a causal relationship between the independent and dependent variable. External validity is the validity of generalized (causal) inferences in scientific research, usually based on experiments as experimental validity. In other words, it is the extent to which the results of a study can be generalized to other situations and to other people. Internal validity refers to the validity of the measurement and test itself, whereas external validity refers to the ability to generalize the findings to the

Sociometric tests can discover, describe and evaluate social status and structure, and can measure the acceptance or rejection felt between sport groups. A non-experimental research technique involving identifying and measuring interpersonal relationships within a group.
Contrast laboratory and field research. Discuss the relative advantages and disadvantages of each.
One advantage of laboratory research is that the research can better establish causality through reducing the number of confounds via a controlled environment like lab setting. The disadvantages of laboratory research are the results may be artificial and not applied to the real world; there may be research bias.
Compare and contrast fundamental theory, descriptive theory and analogical theory.
Analogical reasoning is any type of thinking that relies upon an analogy. An analogical argument is an explicit representation of a form of analogical reasoning that cites accepted similarities between two systems to support the conclusion that some further similarity exists. Descriptive ethics thus embraces moral relativism. Or, Descriptive ethics makes no claim that amorality is moral. Its innate amorality is solely due to a practical division of labor between descript ethics. To compare fundamental theory is a theory that has a purpose of a new structure or underlying process to explain how variables and constants relate (Kenneth S. Borderns| Bruce B .Scott

Advantages of naturalistic observation are a type of method that scientists use to collect data and information about different types of things. Example the subject is observed unknowingly in their natural environment and has not been manipulated. The disadvantage, you have no control over the influences around your subjects, which could impact the results of the test and end ip been useless to the research
Describe ethnography. Discuss the issues facing a field ethnography
Describe ethnography- A no quantitative technique used to study and describe the functioning of the cultures through a study of social interactions and expression between people and groups. Research dealing with phenomena that are difficult or impossible to quantify mathematically, such as beliefs, meanings, attributes.
Define face validity and content validity.
Is how well a test appears to measure by judging the content of what it was design to measure? Example, a measure of matherical ability would have face validity if it contained math problems, (KENNETH S. BORDENS | BRUCE B ABBOTT NINTH EDITION RESEARCH AND DESIGN AND METHODS A PROCESS
In Essentials of Cultural Anthropology, the book defines ethnography as “a written account of how a single human population lives” (Bailey & Peoples, 2014, p. 8). It seems to be such a simple definition to the multiple levels needed to make a successful ethnography as shown by Douglas Raybeck in Mad Dogs, Englishmen, and the Errant Anthropologist. These multiple levels of ethnographic methods include problems that often arise, the assimilation into a culture, and the many different ways of perceiving culture. This method of study is particularly unique to the social sciences because of the extensive amount of assimilation one does in order to interpret a society's culture. There is the need for a year-long period--occasionally even longer--
Sociology is the study of society and the interactions that occur within society itself. There are numerous methods of analyzing societies and the way the function, nonetheless, most methods fall in micro and macro level theories. Micro level theories allow sociologist to study smaller relationships such as individual or compact groups of people. On the other hand, macro level studies permit for larger scale investigations to take place. With both of these theories there are three theoretical perspectives used in sociology. Micro level theories include symbolic interactionism which focuses in interactions done with language and gestures and the means which allow such interactions to take place. Macro level theories include structural functionalism
2. Describe the advantages and disadvantages of quasi-experiments? What is the fundamental weakness of a quasi-experimental design? Why is it a weakness? Does its weakness always matter?
According to our book “anecdotes are first- or secondhand reports of personal experiences. They can include specific information about measures of learning, such as the number of errors made, but they are more often less specific” (Chance, 2014). And case study “examines a particular individual in considerable detail” (Chance, 2014). Last is experimental study “ is a study in which a researcher manipulates one or more variables (literally, things that vary) and measures the effects of this manipulation on one or more other variables” (Chance, 2014). The pros of experiment study is “control over variables, easy determination of cause and effect relationship, better results” (2014, Advantage and Disadvantage of Experimental Research). And the cons of experiment study is “failure to do experiement, creates artificial situations and subject to human error. (2014, Advantage and Disadvantage of Experimental Research). And the kind of experiment that statistical analysis is least likely to be necessary is anecdotes because they are personal experience and personal experience can be made up or not
The first pro to animal testing is that it has helped us create lifesaving cures and treatments. The California Biomedical Research Association released a statement saying almost every single medical breakthrough has resulted in the direct use of animals in the last 100 years. Can you believe this? Taking out dogs pancreases helped us discover insulin, chimpanzees helped us get a vaccine for Hepatitis B, and even the polio vaccine was tested on animals. Animal testing has also helped us treat and understand conditions like brain injury, breast cancer, cystic fibrosis, childhood leukemia, tuberculosis, multiple sclerosis, malaria, and many others. It even helped us develop anesthetics, pacemakers, and cardiac value substitutes. Almost every cure for any condition is due to animal testing. Without animal testing, we may not have been able to find many of these cures and find cures for other conditions in the future.

One reason that animal testing is beneficial is that animals can sometimes make better research subjects then humans because of their shorter life cycles. For example, laboratory mice only live for two to three years, so researchers can study the side effects of the tests that are preformed over a whole lifespan, which would not be possible ...
However, some people believe that animal testing is beneficial in various ways. Those people that see animal testing as beneficial think that without animals, medical developments would not be where it is today. (Animal Testing) It has helped us to find and ensure the safety of drugs and treatments to improve health and medicine such as; open heart surgery, organ transplants, effective insulin, vaccines for deadly diseases and others. It is the most accurate way to learn the effects of substances in a living body. (Animal Testing) Another reason they see it benefi...
Sociology is the study of the relationships that humans have with each other and social institutions. It aims to understand the links that exist between individuals and the social structures around them and also the functions that these social institutions perform in society.
8. Validity - Validity is the degree to which a test measures what it is supposed to measure.
Knowledge can be achieved either through the justification of a true belief or for the substantive externalist, through a “natural or law like connection between the truth of what is believed and the person’s belief” (P.135). Suppose a man named George was implanted with a chip at birth, which causes him to utter the time in a rare Russian dialect. His girlfriend Irina, who happens to speak the same Russian dialect, realizes that every time she taps his shoulder, he tells her the time and he is always right. She knows that he is right because she checks her watch. Because she thinks this is cute, she never tells him what it is that he is saying. One day, Irina’s watch breaks but instead of getting it fixed, she just taps George on the shoulder whenever she needs to ask for the time.
Sociologists analyze human society and interaction using varied ideas and trends. There are three main thought processes used when deciphering social interactions. Structural functionalism, conflict theory, and symbolic interactionism are used to understand how society works. There are strengths and weaknesses that are attributed to each of the theories.
Not only this, but anthropologists will also employ Ethnography, writing down a description and analysis, based upon the fieldwork. This helps keep a record of what was learned, while also keeping the culture being studied under its own viewpoint. These factors help impact the analysis of a culture, while still being observed under a cultural relativism outlook.
In speaking of the systematic study of relationships among people of Sociology, the assumption being that behavior is influenced by social, political, occupational and intellectual groupings and by the particular settings in which individuals find themselves. It is the study of human association and group life. It describes and seeks to explain social processes that give rise to, sustain, and change our social world and us. Some topics in Sociology include conformity and deviance, freedom and transcendence in the social order, stratification, power, race, gender, and social change.
This allows for scientists to have a better understanding of the way the human body functions and the effects drugs may have on humans. Animal testing broadens possibilities of finding cures for illnesses and diseases.
