What I learned in the group final project is that I am not the best with working with people. It is not that I do not want to work with them or that they do not want to work with me, it is that my group which consisted of Alexa, Aaron, Ashlyn, Brett, and myself, had very conflicting schedules so it was difficult trying to rearrange times so all or at least the majority of us could meet up to go over our group work.
Before starting our group project “The Day in a Life of…”, we were grouped up with our fellow classmates but not on our own volition. I was not put into a group with people I knew or thought I would like. They all seemed so different than me and I did not fit in very well all throughout my school career, even starting back to kindergarten.

This is when Alexa became part of our group since she had been absent the last time. Using the notes Aaron had taken, a bit of deciphering since not even he was sure what he had written down, we started working on our PowerPoint that we would be presenting in front of our entire Making Connections class on the day of our finals. We had a lot of fun tossing around ides such as dressing Aaron, the only male group member, as one of the peppy, energetic Redwolf Dancers but he was not going for. We gals tried our best though. I found myself growing fonder of my group. Even though I had not spent much time with them, they were very kind hearted individuals and fun to be with.
The next time we met, we decided to meet at our local frozen yogurt wonderland, also known as Swirlz. Due to the unfortunate events of popping a tire the night before and then popping the donut that was put up in its place, I had to wait until my very irritated parents returned with a new tire to put on my Jeep to go to this meeting. By the time they got back, I was running about twenty minutes late and felt awful for making my group wait for me. But my best friend graciously offered to take me in his car while my parents were working on putting my new tire on so I could make it there
Up till middle school, it seemed like I fit in pretty well at school. I was decent at sports and I had a good amount of friends. Life was pretty good at the time and I was enjoying it. Once high school started, I could see a shift in my life. I had lost most friends from prior years, and I was not good at sports; I struggled to fit in.
I think our group worked well together. We got along nicely and did the work we were supposed to do. During collaboration, what worked was going downstairs or into the collaboration room. It really helped us focus on what we needed to get done. Sometimes, however, we wouldn't do our work and just goof off, but we ended up getting all of our work done on time. Some strategies that helped our
On one visit throughout my community and common environment I was able to observe three separate groups. Within this paper I will describe each group individually provide detailed information regarding body language of the group individually.
Group projects are much more enjoyable when tasks are evenly distributed to each group member. I have learned that if you are willing to let go of some of the control, group members are typically very willing to make a positive contribution to the project. This is especially true when you are allowed to pick the members of the group. As long as everyone is striving to do their best, there is almost always a positive outcome. Nevertheless, these groups generally still have one or two people who always step up to take charge and make sure that everyone is on the same page.

This essay is going to discuss different theories on working in groups, Theories that will help you to become a good team member within a youth work setting. Also we will apply it to your role as a youth practitioner. There are two theorist who are called Tuckman and Belbin. We will be including what their beliefs and views are on becoming a successful team member and how you can developing team work skills by using a developing stage model. We will be comparing both theories and picking out their weaknesses and strengths and relating them both to working with young people. Firstly we are going to give a brief description on what is the terms of team work is. Thereafter we will be starting with Tuckmans theory then following Belbin’s theory. After discussing both theories. After both views we will be looking at how successful it really is and include communication other people’s views on these theory’s, and see if the theories are successful.
After a literature review of several EBP interventions, and psycho-educational peer reviewed articles, addressing homelessness in women, it was found that self-esteem, self-efficacy, anger management, resiliency, communications skills, and anger management skills are a major component of healing for this population. Berzoff (2013) indicates that homeless women often feel “demeaned or bewildered,” and as a result their sense of self is habitually fragmented or diminished. For reasons such as this, many psycho-educational groups were found to include activities designed to increase awareness and skills in these areas. As a result this group will have several sessions dedicated to promoting growth in all of these areas.
Normally in a group, the work will be divided into the number of members in the group and may be arranged to each of the members to receive the part where they are more confident and have more knowledge of it. In addition, if a member is confused with their work, he can receive assistance from his teammates rather than just being alone and figure it himself independently. However, I believe sometimes been in a group can have its cons. A common pitfall associated with working as a group is disagreement about the way something is being done, a particular issue, or an opinion. Sometimes one member might have his own beliefs and want to perform a task in their way and conflict can arise from this. Once conflict arises, the members can discuss their own opinions and might arrive to a solution, but this can cause a member to not show their full potential because something was not done the way they wanted. I believe this is very common but if you are open minded, it can be overcome for the sake of the team to be
middle of paper ... ... However, we still pulled it together and had a successful presentation. Working with my group was exciting, frustrating, and challenging. We struggled with communication in the beginning.
In order to evaluate my role within the group, it is important to identify what makes a group. A group must firstly consist of more than three members, “Two members have personal relationships; with three or more there is a change in quality” of the personal relationship. (Bion 1961, p26) The group must have a common purpose or a goal in order to succeed. Having now completed my group work task, I can look back and reflect upon the process that my group went through to get to the presentation end point.
Groupthink is the psychological phenomenon in which groups working on a task think along the same lines which could have drastic results. It is the result of group polarization where discussions are enhance or exaggerate the initial leanings of the group. Therefore, if a group leans towards risky situation at the beginning of the discussion on average they will move toward an even riskier position. (Marks, 2015). The idea when everyone think the same no one is really thinking. The drastic outcomes result from people trying to avoid conflict with one another, being highly cohesive, and results is questionable decision making (Oliver, 2013). Weaknesses Various challenges were evident throughout the group process including: arranging specific times and locations to meet, miscommunication, and a last minute family emergency. Potentially, the dominant contributing factor to these challenges was the issue of timing within this semester. Group members were all in varying electives, requiring each to have differing assignment priorities. Another issue was that during our group meeting, we noticed that not all members had been a part of our Google Document, where we had been brainstorming, adding information, and observing members
When working on a group project, there are certain skills that are required to make sure that the tasks are being carried out smoothly. With that in mind, it is critical to keep an open line of communication as well as an understanding of the other individuals in the group. The following scenario is of a group project I was a part of that had a breakdown in the two points expressed above.
When someone does not complete their work, I do it for them because I rather do it myself than have to ask someone else to do extra work. The problem with this method is that I am aiding the person's bad habit of not caring about group work. If I have a group member that completely blows off the project, I will talk with the professor. This usually results in an angered group member and they either get removed from to group or a poor
Working together with other people for an assignment can be a challenging task in some cases but luckily, I worked well with my group members. The decisions we made were anonymous although we paced ourselves individually when it came to completing our separate parts of the essay. As a group I believe that we connected well on an interpersonal level as all four of us were able to make alterations to any problem together . Furthermore, we did not give each other a chance to get angry at one another as we knew that this would only cause conflict that would disrupt our flow as a group. There was an equal divide in the amount of work that we all did; our contributions were fair and no one was lacking behind. In addition, my group members were great at keeping each other informed if one of us were not able to attend a group meeting; emails were sent out informing us what we missed and ideas that were formulated. Everyone in my group worked according to deadlines and in synchronization with each other; we did not have to nag anyone to complete work or wait on a member to complete their task.
