There are times when I feel like quitting, and there are times when I feel like my goals are just an arms reach. However, the reason I write this admission essay today is that of dedication. No matter the obstacles in my way, I believe I will persevere because I am willing to make the sacrifices and have the courage to make my aspirations come true. I am not a well-rounded student; I did not play every sport; I did not volunteer overseas. Still, I am passionate and determined to excel in the things that matter most to me and become the best that I can be.
I joined my school’s cross country team in the summer. At the beginning we performed pre-season workouts. The training was tough, but my proud personality and the very thought of what I had to gain kept me motivated and helped me push through the pain. Webster’s Dictionary defines physical as “concerned or preoccupied with the body and its’ needs” and defines activity as “the state or quality of producing or involving movement.” I agree with Mr. Webster’s definitions. I see physical activity as doing some kind of movement in order to assist in improving or maintaining a body’s level of health. By maintaining or improving that level of health, physical activity also plays a big role in a person’s “quality of life”. How happy or complete a person feels many times depends upon, how their body looks, how they are feeling inside, or how fit they feel. This is where I see the physical educator stepping into the picture. As a physical education teacher, you need to be able to instill the meaning and importance of being physically active. In her book, Lumpkin defines physical education as “a process through which an individual obtains optimal physical, mental, and social skills and fitness through physical activity”. Not only do teachers need to impress upon the students the effects activity can have on their lives physically, but also mentally, and socially.
While cardiovascular exercise has its merits, it alone cannot provide one with the comprehensive benefits crucial to a healthy society that weightlifting can. Firstly, weightlifting requires a different type of mental focus and discipline than does cardio. The concentration and determination required to push past preconceived mental barriers to lift weights is exclusive to this exceptional form of exercise. The mental fortitude acquired through weightlifting extends far beyond the gym and is exemplified as these individuals approach challenges in their daily lives. Secondly, weightlifters obtain a sense of community as individuals support and motivate each other through workouts and gym experiences.

Why I signed up for aerobics fitness and what it has done for me. I decided to sign up for aerobics/fitness because I thought it would do more for me physically and mentally than normal gym would. Personally I believe that normal gym is boring and if you’re not good at some sports like me it can be difficult to concentrate or even really care about gym class. When I took gym I personally didn’t care or really try hard. Now to this day it makes me disappointed, I wish I would have tried harder in what we were doing or what sport we’d be playing
