Recommended: Depiction of women in movies

Types of Movies I Highly Recommend Watching movies is a great way to spend a Sunday night with my family, but to make it a successful movie night we must choose the perfect movie. We usually narrow it down to comedy, horror, romance, drama, and war, and then we decide a movie from these genres. My favorite movies that we have watched have come from these three types of movies: comedy, horror, and war. Comedy movies always fill the room with laughter, smiles, and happiness. If I am feeling upset or having a bad day, I can always count on a comedy to bring a smile to my face or brighten up my day. One of my favorite comedy movies is Forrest Gump. This leads to all his hilarious and random eventful accomplishments in his life. For example, after running across America, his only explanation was he “just felt like running”. When he meets John F. Kennedy for his performance in the all American football team in college, he drinks seventeen Dr. Peppers before actually meeting the president. By the time he is asked by JFK how it feels to be an all American, Forrest responds with “I gotta pee” in front of national television. This are only a few hilarious moments from the movie. Another comedy movie I enjoy watching is Napoleon Dynamite. I find this movie funny because the main character and his best friend, Napoleon and Pedro, are awkward, quirky, and random. My favorite scene is when Pedro is expected to give a speech for part of his class president campaign, however Pedro was not informed about it and did not prepare one. Napoleon performs a silly dance act that he learned from a VHS tape of “D-Qwon’s Dance Grooves” that he bought at a thrift store in order to save Pedro from his boring unprepared speech he was delivering. War movies are easily my favorite because they have drama, romance, and sadness. My feelings will change so easily while watching war movies especially in the movie Brothers. This movie deals with one marine brother’s plane crashing and being tormented in Afghanistan while the other brother, Joe, is recently is released from jail and is living with the marine brother, Seth’s family. This movie makes me laugh with Joe’s charismatic attitude towards his brother’s two daughters. It brings tears to my eyes when Seth comes home traumatized by the events he went through in Afghanistan. Even though Seth is admitted into a mental hospital to deal with his PTSD, his wife stands by his side. This movie is an all-time favorite because it can make me feel all three emotions in its two hours of film. Lone Survivor is another war movie I enjoy watching. This movie is based on a true story which makes the events that go on in the movie appear more horrific and saddening. The movie is on a team of four Navy Seals on a mission in Afghanistan to capture a dangerous Taliban leader. This movie is great because it not only demonstrates the true events that people who serve our country can go through, but it also makes me cry with the courageous acts seen throughout the movie. My most recently watch war movie that I loved is American Sniper. This also based on a true story of an American war hero, Chris Kyle. This

    Americans function in a normative society, where outliers are either considered dangerous or laughable. The patriarchal ideals upon which the United States was founded placed white heterosexual males at the top of the social ladder, but in so doing, all those who fall short of this specific condition are left struggling to climb toward normalcy. This ideal, however, is challenged by the blithely offensive, obsessive-compulsive main character of the film, As Good as it Gets. It is difficult to imagine an actor besides Jack Nicholson playing the part of Melvin Udall, whose neurotic behavior is a part of his particular brand of charm.
