We are all very aware that technology has become a big part of our lives. In the most recent years we use technology for almost everything, for instance you can go to a restaurant and order your food through an iPad. It was just a matter of time until we start noticing this technology being used in classrooms, and surely enough students now are doing in class activities on tablets and reading books off the apps. Teachers are finding ways to incorporate the new technology into their lessons and activities students can do. There are many positives with bringing technology into a learning environment but there can also be many downfalls. Due to the advances in technology, kids in all grade levels get to experience education in a totally different way older generations couldn’t.
Almost every school today has some type of Internet connection. Having an Internet connection does not necessarily mean that it is wireless, but usually it is because teachers connect to it with their laptops. I was surprised to find out that only 64% of schools in the United States had Internet access. I was surprised because today so many people have phones, iPods, and tablets that rely on the Internet access, so for 36% of the US schools not to have access to Internet makes me wonder which schools don’t have access and why? I remember when I was in high school some students would get the teachers logins and they would give the other students the passwords so we can all have access to the schools Wi-Fi. In my four years of high school the teachers changed the passwords and log-ins at least thirty times.

In high school our teacher let us each borrow an iPad, but before we can touch the iPad we were given a topic that we had to master and then teach the rest of the class. The incentive of being able to use the iPads after we learned the material was really motivating. We had seen videos from Khan Academy because at that time we were reviewing for our STAR Test, so our goal was to do a video like his. When we learned the steps for our topic we did a video just like Sal’s, after we edited we taught our classmates and they really enjoyed it. Me as a student enjoyed it because we were able to show our creativity, which we hardly do during regular class. Having this technology introduced to us, made us stay on task and motivated to get our work done.
