The Capitol does this game to remind everyone that they still have power over them. In the game, the Capitol expects to see tributes fighting and kill each other without hesitation, mercy, or emotion; Katniss however, goes against this rule when she saw Rue with a spear in her stomach. She killed the tribute that killed Rue, and that was the first time Katniss murders someone during the game. Rising three finger salute was something innocent that turned into something much more; it grew into resistance, contribution to the start of the rebellion.
Daniel Shays’ was a hero for many reasons although many of the things he did would cause him not be considered a hero. They don’t include all of the good things that he had done for him and all of the poor farmers that were getting sent to debtor's prison. Daniel shays stud up for the poor and he took a stand against a poor government. He also showed the weakness of the The Articles of Confederation “that a loser wrote”(Mr.James words) .Another reason is that Daniel Shays’ is a hero is because that he was awarded a sword for his bravery on the battlefield. That is a couple reasons Daniel Shays’ is a hero.
There are many inferences you can make about the reaping and why Katniss thinks Prim is safe from the reaing, just by reading paragraphs 1 through 7. For example you can infer that the reaping is some sort of drawing or lottery from the quotes, "...since she's only entered once." and " ... but I'm powerless against the reaping." because it is something you must enter and are powerless against. You can infer that Katniss think Primrose is safe because of her age and how many times her name had been entered. Quotes from paragraph 2 and 7 help prove this. "...since she only entered once" is a valid reason Katniss think Prim is safe if she has only entered once the chances are pretty slim she will get chosen. Another example is " I didn't
Evaluate the relative importance of two of the following as factors prompting Americans to rebel in 1776.
This produced the mockingjay, and as Katniss states, they were ‘something of a slap in the face to the Capitol’ (The Hunger Games, pg. 43 ) All of the mockingjays’ appearances in the story have had great meaning or importance. They were first mentioned as a reminder of Katniss’s father; the days they would go hunting and he would sing to the mocking jays. This is an important part of Katniss’s past and has shaped who she is now.
You would think Katniss wouldn’t dream of teaming up with a child, but she has. Rue is so similar yet so different from Katniss’s younger sister Prim which is partly the reason why they have teamed up. They surprisingly make an impressive duo and they work so well they’ve become partners in crime. The song presented is lighthearted and connects to the scene very well because at each other’s side they feel safe and secure. They both know the situation they’re in is life or death, but that doesn’t stop them from doing as much as they can to hurt the Career tributes of 1, 2, and 4. The piece also tells how both people in the song care for each other and treasure the bond they have made, much like Katniss and
The “No” is a “No”! I am a volunteer for the AP! I am a volunteer for the AP! I volunteer as a tribute!” Katniss yells as the guard stops her from approaching Prim.
Thumbs up! You fools!..He had been aware from the first of Uncle Aquila's great thumb pointing skyward beside him; suddenly he was aware of a few others echoing the gesture, and then a few more. For a long, long moment the swordsman's fate still hung in the balance, and then as thumb after thumb went up, the Fisher slowly lowered his trident with a little mocking bow, he stepped back (Sutcliff, pg.47).
Waking up to be told to either survive or die is a hard pill to swallow. In the movie, The Hunger Games: Catching Fire by Suzanne Collins, she captured how post-apocalyptic life was in the nation of Panem. Not only in catching fire but throughout the entire series, Collins uses an image of a Mockingjay. Is the Mocking Jay a sign of rebellion or does the significance of the image run deeper? Upon, research you find that Collins idea of the Hunger games evolved from the Greek myth of Theseus and the Minotaur. Collins describes the Hunger Games an “an updated version of the Roman gladiator games, which entails a ruthless government forcing people to fight to the death as popular entertainment”.
Amusing, violent revenge for a past rebellion against the Capitol, the games were created and televised the broadcast through Panem. The 24 participants are sent into an arena and are forced to purge the other Tributes while it’s mandatory for the citizens of Panem to watch. When Prim, Katniss' young sister, is chosen as District 12's female representative, Katniss volunteers to take her sister's place. She and her male colleague, Peeta, are put against bigger, stronger tributes, some of which have trained to fight for the games their whole lives.

What happens in the Hunger Games is that when Katniss goes up to be a volunteer for the hunger games there is a moment of silence. This is because there are many who know this girl who now has only a slim chance of surviving. Many of the people live in fear of their world in this fictional society. So a moment of silence for there sure to be fallen hero is all they can put forward because of fear.
Mahatma Gandhi once said “Power is of two kinds. One is obtained by the fear of punishment and the other by acts of love. Power based on love is a thousand times more effective and permanent then the one derived from fear of punishment.” Power is something that a lot of people tend to misuse. Power can be great at times, but most the time it can make bad things happen. People think just because they have the power to do something means they should do it, when really that is not the case. In the movie “The Hunger Games” power is used to abuse everyone and everything around.
Shay's Rebellion was an armed uprising made of Massachusetts farmers who were angry about the harsh penalties from the state for debtors postwar depression. After the state governments refused to change to paper money to help the farmers pay for their debt, the furious farmers began closing down county courts to prevent any more hearings for debt. Initially these rebels called themselves the Regulators (copying the name of the Carolina insurgents of the 1760s). But they later took the name Shaysites when Daniel Shays surfaced as the leader. The actions of the Shaysites eventually escalated into an armed conflict between the rebels and a privately funded army of residents of Boston and coastal towns (led by Benjamin Lincoln) who feared the inflationary
Katniss Everdeen is one of the best heroes in modern mythology. “Katniss Everdeen. She is the hero we need.” (Kim, Daniel J). Katniss isn’t like other heroes in modern mythology. Heroes today are characterized by their aggression and dominance but not Katniss. Katniss is strong when she has to be, but deep inside she is truly scared. Joseph Cambell’s 17 stages monomyth is able to map out a hero’s journey and express the steps taken to become a hero. Katniss is a highly qualified hero and accomplishes several stages in becoming the true hero she is. She is loyal, but unsure of whether it is egocentric or selflessness. All heroes have self doubts during their journeys. Katniss is a hero because of her ability to love. She incorporates love while trying to fight for her life and the lives of others back home during her time in the arena. Suzanne Collins expresses that love is an important part of life: “Love *now*. While you can.”. The way Katniss is able to feel compassion and for her to have hope is what truly makes her a hero.
... their victory tour. After they both gave their speeches to the public, an old man saluted Katniss. As a result, he was executed by one of the peacemakers. This can refer back to the example of the Wal-Mart employees being arrested for refusing to stop protesting. Many people know that there is going to be a consequence to their action. This old man knew something was going to happen to him, so he took a risk to show his admiration for Katniss.
