The Middle East,1095. The sound of horses pierces the silence of the night. The defenders of the Holy Land,Jerusalem rush towards the invaders,the armour-clad Crusaders. In this essay I will talk about how the Crusades were justified. But first,what were the Crusades?

The Crusades were a series of wars that stretched from 1096 to 1285 between the Muslims of the Middle East and the Christian European crusaders. They were also military campaigns sanctioned by the Latin Roman Catholic Church during the Middle Ages. In 1095 Pope Urban II proclaimed the First Crusade with the stated goal of restoring Christian access to holy places in and near Jerusalem.

The Crusades,as lethal as they may have sounded,are considered justified by many historians and world leaders. The Crusades were justified because the general view was that the Crusade was justified as a defensive reaction to injuries sustained by the people of the affected party as a reaction to past injuries. The Crusaders were protecting the right and possibility of pilgrims to go to the Holy Land. The Crusades were morally justifiable wars fought in self-defence to recapture what was lost to an unjust aggressor whose actions over the previous 450 years had shown an intention to conquer all of Christian people.
