Author, Weldon Kees was best known for his poetry, short stories, music and paintings. Kees had articles in the many popular magazines such as the New York Times, New Republic, and The Nation. Kees published his poems and also presented his art in a local gallery. The last few years of his life the famous author became very depressed. In 1955 Kees car was found abandoned; many figured he committed suicide. The poem “For My Daughter” was written by the apprehensive author Weldon Kees. During the time Kees wrote this poem there were many sicknesses that had many people dying, along with the denouement of World War II. Kees captures all the horrific types of events in that era, with the poem about his daughter. He is worried about all the possible catastrophes. In the poem he is insinuating that he is a father worried about his beloved child growing up and marrying someone that is not worthy to be with her, “Bride of a syphilitic or a fool” (11). Reading on you realize that Kees is simply becoming disgusted with his daughter's future, therefore he no longer cares, “I have no daughter. I desire none”(13).
