We Were Soldiers
We Were Soldiers is a very intense movie although, I think the movie cannot be described in only one word. The movie is heartbreaking, intense, goory, melancholic but it also gives one a great deal of pride. I really did enjoy the movie a lot, I usually do not watch movies especially not documentaries or history movies, and however, I really enjoyed this one. I liked it because I think it demonstrates what war is really like. It made me feel sad after I was done watching it because it was so realistic. No one in my family has been in the military therefore, I don’t think I realized how hard it is for the families and I still do not think I fully understand what family and friends feel as their loved ones go overseas. They had to take care of the kids and live with the fear of their husbands not coming back. I got a better understanding of the time period. I did not realize how recent the Vietnam War was. This movie relates to class because of the things I have already mentioned above and obviously because we learned about the Vietnam War. Throughout the whole semester we have been talking about the speed of communism and containment but recently we have focused a little more on containment. The purpose of the Vietnam War was to stop the spread of communism. This war was a great example of what not to do in foreign conflicts. We also talk about and read a document over Ho Chi Minh who led his guerrilla movement called the Viet Minh. It was also related to the class because we talked about the cold war which was a “war” but no fighting only threats.
