The water polo sport industry is rather a very lackluster business. Although USA water polo has recently received to some public attention from its silver medal in Beijing, it has remained a forgotten sport. This is perhaps due to the lack of professional teams in the US and/or lack of a strong youth national development programs. Although water polo may be the most intensive and exhausting sports ever conceived, the water polo family always manages to hang on in some shape or form. As a water polo player myself, I see that my pathways to professional success is very limited as there is very narrow road. Many professional water polo players in the US hold second jobs and relegate to a coaching position to fuel their passions. However, the excess of water polo coaches concentrated in the senior high level creates an extreme bottleneck as most water polo seniors graduate without a future scholarship or career in line. The financial incentive can come in reduced tuition for their children, overall higher paychecks, and management support. There is a lot of resources that high schools put into their existing water polo teams, however, it all goes to waste. By implementing a financial incentive for coaches to coach in college, high schools are left with a higher return on investment. The turnover after high school water polo can actually be balanced. Slowly, colleges will benefit from the expected increase in tuition payments they receive from the high interest polo players and commercial profits from their future fan base. With just the right financial incentives, colleges can tip over the imbalanced scale and potentially increase the interest in the sport of water polo in the US

Sports provide a nice source of money for the college but some of the money is given to the coaches where coaches are given much more money than professors that do make an effort to teach students. The money can be potentially be used to promote more departments and of the like, but to see that coaches get paid more than professors, it makes a statement of how sports are more important than education. Paying for talent reduces the sport to a job instead of a skillful game. Not only can the school have problems, but also the sport. “College coaches are usually unpaid as well” (Furth 1). Therefore, it would not be reasonable to pay athletes and leave coaches with no currency. The National Collegiate Athletic Association, or NCAA, has said that the high revenue sports subsidize less profitable sports like lacrosse, soccer, and hockey (Majorol). The consensus is if universities, with vast amounts of funding, start offering a play and get paid initiative that the lesser colleges would struggle to compensate, from a declining recruiting class, and their less popular athletic programs would slowly fizzle to nonexistence. Hypothetically, as athletes recognize that they can get an education, play college sports, and also get paid like an employee they will start transitioning away from the lesser schools while creating a pool of players in the top schools. Despite the strength of the reasons as to why student-athletes should not be paid, there are certain problems with the current NCAA system which can and should be cured. The gap between a full scholarship and the cost of attendance should be covered by the academic institution, especially when a student athlete does not qualify for a loan. Such a policy will go a long way in ensuring that student-athletes are not leaving school to become professional athletes because they cannot pay their bills. Academic institutions should be able to provide at least that much for their athletes. Ultimately, this is a form of payment, but it is not the type of payment that some individuals are advocating. The primary purpose of these institutions is to educate; it is the coach's job to teach, and not just in terms of the sport a student athlete plays. These schools should facilitate the educations of student-athletes through scholarship grants, but not through a system of salaries dependent on supply and demand, which ultimately detracts a student-athlete from picking a school, and detracts them from attending a school, for the right reasons.

A sport not for the faint of heart, both men and women’s water polo is an exhausting sport that requires heavy weightlifting and constant training. Even in the off-season, training is never easy. In order to accomplish success in a season, these supporting individuals are forced to rely on a select few of premier athletes. From day one of tryouts, these athletes are crafted and molded based on their hard work as well as their ability to play in accordance with the coach’s style. At a varsity level, where victory has his or her job on the line, coaches should not be required to play every member of the team equally.

Water is essential for humanity’s survival, and even though the world is largely covered by water, only a small percentage is only usable for human consumption. Approximately, on average, 120,000 gallons of water are used annually for a single-family household (Galbraith). This alarming number could be reduced dramatically for the efforts of water conserving and lower water bill prices for families and subsequently saving money that could be used for other expenses. Thus, conserving water would prove beneficial and advantageous to not just Texas, but for everyone else as well. Although environmental policies have been not as popular with Congress and the state legislature, it is still an important problem to consider since there are only a limited amount of resources for public use, such as water.
