Would you want to drink the same water you bathe in or the water that your dead family members are in. For many this is the reality of their everyday lives. This water is also very polluted by the people that live near the water source. Jyotti Hottam, “How India’s success Is Killing It’s Holy River”. This article effectively uses the ethos logos and pathos argument because it gives facts that support the points they made. It also gives reasons why the facts are true and it talks about the life of the villagers and makes you feel like you are living that life. They also believe this based on spiritual belife and that is something thatwil lmake uit difficult to change their ways. The article effectivly illistrates a pathos argument by talking about the population growth and how if it continiues to grow their may not be enough water for the water to be able to cleanse itself in the way that it can and their may not be enough water for all the people that are dependent on the water source as a daily survival mechanism. It says, ”The notion that economic growth can raise incomes and living standards without limit or consequence. Water may be a renewable resource, but it is not boundless. Also in the text he gives credit to the other places where he gets his statistics from. Coonan (2007) gives credit by saying, “The study, by the Chinese Academy of Sciences, WWF and the Yangtze River Water Resources Commission” (para. 2). This shows that he has given credit to the sources where he has been given the information to help back up his point that the pollution is over bearing. The article effectivly use a pathos argument by talking about how the pollution has had a toll on the fish and rare species of fish and even the more common fish are becoming extinct. The article says, “Pollution is playing havoc with fishing. The Yangtze's annual harvest of aquatic products dropped from 427,000 tonnes in the 1950s to about 100,000 tonnes in the 1990s, the study says” (Clifford Coonan, 2007, para. 9).
